  • Robbery suspects arrested here after police chase

    Three Ohio men believed to have been involved in a Florence armed robbery Jan. 9 were apprehended in Grant County after a police chase that topped 100 miles per hour.

    Kentucky State Police in Dry Ridge received a call at 2:38 p.m. from Florence Police in an attempt to locate a dark-colored Chevrolet Monte Carlo witnessed leaving the scene of an armed robbery of Spring Leaf Financial.

    Trooper Chris Marcum observed a vehicle matching the description about 20 minutes later traveling southbound on Interstate 75 at mile marker 148 in Grant County.

  • Library offers Hot Reads to warm up Cold Nights

    The Grant County Public Library wants readers to cuddle up with a good book this winter to stay warm from frigid temperatures.
    For the fourth year, the library is holding Hot Reads for Cold Nights, a winter reading program from Jan. 13 to Feb. 22 offering prizes for participation.

    Most people would rather stay indoors than get out in the cold, winter weather.
    Beverly Bass will be braving not only the cold weather, but an icy pool of water to raise money for a good cause.
    Bass will be participating for the third time in the Special Olympics of Kentucky’s annual Polar Bear Plunge fundraiser by taking the plunge herself on Feb. 1 at Joe’s Crab Shack in Newport.

  • Judge appoints Wagoner to fill county clerk’s job

    A new face is in charge of the Grant County Clerk’s Office as the new year begins.
    Leatha Conrad, a long-time fixture at the clerk’s office, retired at the end of 2013 leaving her position vacant.

    Judge-Executive Darrell Link has appointed Williamstown resident Layne Wagoner to fill the remaining year on Conrad’s term.

  • 2014 General Assembly tackles budget, taxes

    The budget, gambling, tax reform, education and more will be on the table as the Kentucky General Assembly gather starting this week for the 2014 session.

    The 60-day session begins Jan. 7 and is set to adjourn in Frankfort on April 15.

    The frigid cold that swept across the Bluegrass at the beginning of week impacted Grant County.

    The temperature dipped as low as - 8 degrees on Monday with the windchill making it feel like -30 degrees at times.

    The high was expected to reach 14 degrees Tuesday as temperatures crept up with a warmup coming for the end of the week.

    Coming off a long winter break, Grant County and Williamstown Independent Schools were out two more days because of the harsh winter conditions.

    Basketball games were canceled.

  • Lady Braves lose heartbreaker to W-V

    The Christmas break was not kind to the Grant County Lady Braves and coach Shawn West.
    After dropping three straight games in the First National Bank Holiday Bash at South Warren High School, the Lady Braves returned home and suffered a heart-breaking 58-54 defeat to Walton-Verona in a game the Lady Braves had won until mental mistakes costs them the victory in the final seconds.

  • GRANT COOKS LOVE TO SHARE KITCHEN SECRETS

    AlAnn Feldmann of Williamstown wanted to pass on her mother and grandmother’s recipes to her six children so she made each one of them, even the two unmarried youngest sons.
    She included notes like  this one for her gravy recipe - good luck because every time it will be different..

    Feldmann, of Williamstown, said her whole family cooks, but she learned the most from her mother, which came in handy when she had her own large family.
    “I raised six kids on home scratched food,” she said.
