The annual Back to School Bash, Easter Egg Hunt and Senior Bash events have been put on the chopping block for this year. The cost-saving measures came after recent cuts to the Grant County Parks and Recreation Department during the county’s financial crisis.

Parks and Recreation director Mattie Gutman said parks and recreation programming was cut in at least half.
Gutman is currently the only full-time employee in the Parks and Recreation Department.

Carroll County Sheriff Jamie Kinman pled guilty Monday, April 3, to five felony indictments, three misdemeanor indictments and three malfeasance violations and resigned his position as sheriff.
He accepted a plea agreement that requires him to successfully complete a one-year residential substance abuse treatment program at Canaan Land Ministries in Autaugaville, Ala., and complete a five-year pre-trial diversion program.

FRANKFORT - The Kentucky General Assembly ended its 2017 session late Thursday by approving a final batch of mostly low-profile bills and gubernatorial appointments, although Republicans and Democrats argued over measures to interfere in zoning lawsuits and limit the availability of prescription painkillers.
As the clock struck midnight and the session ended, an amended version of House Bill 281, which would have reduced the power of Attorney General Andy Beshear in a couple of ways, died for a lack of action on the House floor. The Senate passed it earlier in the evening.

The Grant County Fiscal Court approved 3-1 a business-licensing fee on April 3, with Judge-Executive Steve Wood, District 2 Magistrate Shawna Coldiron and District 3 Magistrate Bobby Newman voting yes, and District 1 Magistrate Jacqalynn Riley voting no.
The ordinance passed after a recall vote was held, with Newman initially voting no, along with Riley, only to change his vote later.
