  • Former GC teacher wins award

    Chad Carr, pictured right, bottom, has received the Superintendent of the Year award, for the second consecutive year, for his work as regional vice president/superintendent of a global education company in Columbus, Ohio.

  • Harrison College

    Vanessa M. Marshall, a 2007 graduate of Wiliamstown High School, received an Associate of Science in Nursing degree from Harrison College in Indianapolis on June 18.

    Marshall is the daughter of Tim and Kim Marshall of Corinth and the granddaughter of Floyd and Sherry Blevins of Amherst, Ohio.

  • GCHS soccer scrimmage planned

    The Grant County High School Braves and Lady Braves soccer teams will hold their annual alumni scrimmage Aug. 11.

    The boys’ game will be at 6:30 p.m., followed by the girls’ game at 7:30 p.m. Both games will be at the Grant County Middle School field.

    All GCHS soccer alumni are encouraged to attend.

  • GCHS sets fee, pick up schedule

    Parents of Grant County High School students may pay fees and pick up schedules for the 2010-11 school year on the following dates in the GCHS library:

    • Aug. 4 -  8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    • Aug. 5 - 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

    • Aug. 6 - 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

    On Aug. 5, incoming freshmen and students new to GCHS are invited to attend orientation beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the GCHS auditorium. Parents and students will be able to meet teachers and visit classrooms that evening. Bring the schedule to orientation.

     

  • University of Louisville

    The following Grant County students were named dean’s scholars or made the dean’s list  at the University of Louisville for spring 2010. A student who is a dean’s scholar has a 4.0 grade point average and a student named to the dean’s list has a 3.5 grade point average.

  • Michael graduates Redondo High

    Shelby Lancaster Michael graduated with honors from Redondo Union High School, July 24 and has been accepted to attend San Francisco State College. Alison Michael, her sister, has also been accepted as a junior transfer and they will room together.

    They are the daughters of Sally Jo Michael of Redondo Beach, Calif. and the granddaughters of Rita Steger of Corinth. Don and Rita Steger attended the graduation in Redondo Beach and the Michael family will visit Kentucky relatives in August.

     

  • Bluegrass Community/Technical College

    Bluegrass Community and Technical College recognized the following students from Grant County who have achieved dean’s list honors for the 2010 spring semester. The college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the dean’s list students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in courses numbered 100 or above.

    BCTC’s dean’slist honorees for spring 2010 are: Billie Carter-Jones, Michaela Mabry, Brittany Staton and Anna Thornton.

     

  • Grant students receive academic honors:

    Morehead State

    University

    Jason Dunaway graduated from Morehead State University with a bachelor of business administration degree during the 2009 winter commencement ceremony.

    He is the son of Jeff and Pennie Dunaway of Williamstown.

    Cincinnati

    State

    Danny Mullins of Williamstown was among the more than 1,600 students who graduated this year from Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

    Mullins majored in clinical laboratory technology.

  • Eastern Kentucky

    Jaclyn Porter was named to the dean’s list and the president’s list for the spring semester at Eastern Kentucky University.

    Porter earned a perfect 4.0 GPA and will be a senior this fall majoring in elementary education.

    She is the daughter of Ray and Sue Porter and the grandaughter of Ray and Ruth Porter and Howard and Betty Brewer.
