Grant County and Williamstown Independent school districts are already making plans for next year.
School boards for both districts recently approved their 2013-14 calendar.
For a second year, Grant County Schools will have a calendar with a unique start for students who will be entering kindergarten, sixth and ninth grades.
The first day for kindergarteners, sixth graders and freshmen will be Tuesday, Aug. 13 while students in all other grades will begin the new year on Aug. 14.

Tyler Sheffield, son of Bubba and Michelle Sheffield of Dry Ridge and a 2010 graduate of Grant County High School, achieved the recognition of President’s Scholar at Western Kentucky University for the 2012 Fall Semester. Sheffield is a junior at Western Kentucky University studying civil engineering.
 To be selected for this honor, one must compile an academic standing of 3.8 or better out of a possible 4.0.

Juniors at Williamstown High School prepared for the ACT for months before taking the test for real March 5.
The district began by giving all juniors a practice/mock ACT on Sept. 19.
The results of the practice test were analyzed and disaggregated, and individual RTI programs were developed for each student who fell below benchmarks in any of the four subject areas.
WHS guidance counselor Brand Feagan then met with all students in small groups in the fall to discuss the areas of improvement needed to meet benchmarks.

Robyn Meyer  
Robyn Meyer is the WES Headstart a.m. Student of the Week. She is in Pam Mullin’s class. “Robyn is a great artist, she paints and does art almost everyday. She is always smiling!” Mullins said.
Robyn’s favorite thing to do is story time with Janet Griffith. Robyn’s favorite book is “One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish”.
 Her favorite thing to do as a family is playing games.
