  • Students earn first with robotic skills

    On May 2, Grant County Schools had six teams compete in the STLP (Student Technology Leadership Program) Robotics Competition (RCX Robo Challenge Xtreme) at Georgetown College. Teams from Crittenden-Mount Zion Elementary, Dry Ridge Elementary, Mason-Corinth Elementary, Sherman Elementary, Grant County Middle School and Grant County High School were represented at this regional competition.

  • Excused abscenses are still abscenses

    Q: My daughter has missed a lot of school this year, but she has doctor’s notes for almost all of her absences. She has missed 54 days. Her teachers said she will not pass this year because she missed so much school. If her absences are excused, how can they hold her back?

  • Local student named to Centre’s dean’s list

    Chris Atha has been named to the dean’s list for the fall term at Centre College in Danville, an honor reserved for students who maintain at least a 3.60 grade point average.

    Atha is the son of Cassie Marksberry of Lexington and Tony Atha of Dry Ridge, and is a graduate of Sayre School in Lexington.

    Grant County High School graduates and Transylvania University sophomores Katrina and Raven Mineo helped Transylvania’s speech and debate team walk away from the recent Kentucky Forensics Association State Championship held at Owensboro Community and Technical College with numerous awards.

    To get their students ready for CATS testing, Mason-Corinth Elementary held John Deere Gear Day.

    The idea behind the day was to give the children the opportunity to have fun before testing started, but also to do their best because John Deere wouldn’t put his name on anything that wasn’t his best.

  • The Youth Performance Award winner for March is John Siedenberg, a senior at Williamstown High School.

    Siedenberg, 17, is the son of John and Brigitte Siedenberg of Williamstown.

    He has a younger brother, Jacob, who is a sophomore at Williamstown High School.

    His class schedule this year includes AP calculus, AP English, physics, government economics, student technology learning program and chorus.

    His favorite class is government economics.

    “The teacher, Mr. Biddle, is hilarious. He makes learning easy to grasp,” said Siedenberg.
