Seven students from Grant County earned honors on the University of Louisville’s dean’s list or as a dean’s scholars for the semester that ended May 2009.

A student named as a dean’s scholar has achieved a grade point average of 4.0. Students who have been named to the dean’s list have achieved a grade point average of 3.5 to 3.9.

Those receiving honors as a dean’s scholar include Katelynn Bachman (Williamstown High School); Rebecca Puralewski (Grant County High School) and Pamela Warman (St. Henry High School.)

Anna Thornton of Grant County achieved dean’s list honors for the 2009 Spring semester at Bluegrass Community and Technical College.

The college recognizes academic excellence by naming to the dean’s list full-time students who have earned an overall semester grade point average of 3.5 or better in courses numbered 100 or above.

Crystal A. White of Corinth was honored at Scholarship Day Academic Awards Banquet at Berea College.

The banquet is held annually to honor superior academics, in addition to good character and initiative.

White received the 2009 Elizabeth D. Gilbert Fellowship in library science. The fellowship is awarded to aid seniors or recent graduates of Berea College for graduate studies in library science. Friends and admirers of Gilbert, Berea College head librarian for many years, established this fellowship in 1973.

Thirteen students from Grant County High School took to the national stage to show off the skills they have worked all year to develop.

The students are part of the GCHS Speech and Drama team and attended the national National Catholic Forensic League tournament on May 23 and 24 in Albany, NY.

“The funny thing is that we placed third in the state level as a team, but we sent more students to nationals than any school in Kentucky,” coach Ryan Ray said. “To know that we sent more students is exciting.”
