  • Draper awarded scholarship for auto body work

    Heather Draper isn’t afraid to take on the boys. “They all got mad because I finished first in the class.” Draper, a senior at Grant County High School, said about the boys in her auto body class at Boone County vocational school.

    Draper said she notices that auto body finishing is normally a male dominated field and it is more difficult for women to advance. “I have to work harder to prove myself.” Draper said. And, that’s just what she did.

  • Adjustment to all-day kindergarten going well

    Worn-out children have transitioned to wide-eyed learners by the end of the first year of all-day kindergarten at Grant County and Williamstown schools.

    Both school districts began all-day kindergarten classes in August, and, despite an adjustment period, teachers believe the change has paid off.

  • Dry Ridge Elementary

    Dry Ridge Elementary is serious about getting children to read.

    That’s what prompted the hallways to become a canvas for nursery rhymes and fairy tales.

    Daniel Pagan, special education teacher at DRE, and Sarah Campbell, parent of a second grade student, have spent numerous hours after school working to transform the plain gray and white walls into works of art.

    The project started with the talking phase in November with actual paint to wall in February.

     The Youth Performance Award winner for April is Ashley Goodrich, a senior at Grant County High School.

    Goodrich, 17, is the daughter of Kimberly and Jim Goodrich of Corinth.

  • Turner graduates from Thomas More College

    Patricia Dawn Turner of Union, will be graduating from Thomas More College May 16. She will be receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications. She will also receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. She is member of Theta Phi Alpha Sorority. She is also a member of the Psi Chi National Honor Society in psychology.

    Turner is a 2005 graduate of Grant County High School.

    She is the daughter of Charles Turner of Corinth and Tamra Turner of Union.

    GCHS hosts Tractor Day

    The Grant County High School FFA will be sponsoring Tractor Day May 8.

    Members will be driving their tractors to Grant County High School the morning of May 8. Judging of the classes will occur at 3:30 p.m.

    There will be slow moving vehicles on the roads Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. and again from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Please be cautious, patient and drive safe. Grant County High School hopes to make this a recurring event for the students and community.

  • Perrin set to travel down under

    Megan Perrin is excited to graduate from Grant County High School, but at the same time, she’s excited about what awaits her once she’s done with high school.

    Perrin will travel to Australia and New Zealand on June 11 as part of the People to People program. To take part in the program, Perrin was nominated by a teacher from Grant County Middle School.

    “When I heard about it, I was so excited because I thought I got a free trip, but you have to go through an interview process,” Perrin said. “I was super excited that I was chosen.”
