  • GCHS STLP competes in state competition

    Grant County High School Student Technology Leadership Program students competed in the state STLP competition at Rupp Arena in Lexington on May 13.
    As part of their showcase, students presented an analysis of Operation Take Charge, where they taught basic computer skills to adults. Their vision was two-fold: to give back to the community and to complete a project that the group proposed at STLP regional competition.
    The showcase team won Best In Region and made it to the top 12 percent in the state.

  • McClanahan chosen for youth tour

    Easton McClanahan of Williamstown was among the 94 high school students from across Kentucky who participated in the 40th annual Kentucky Rural Electric Washington Youth Tour held June 10-17, 2011, in Washington, DC.  Selected on the basis of academic achievement, community involvement, and written essay,

    McClanahan was chosen to represent Owen Electric Cooperative as a delegate.

  • THINK AHEAD 2012

    The class of 2011 wasn’t even out the door, when the focus of Grant County High School turned to the class of 2012 on May 4.

    “Think Ahead Class of 2012” was a collaborative effort by Jill Marksberry, Grant County community education director, Jennifer Wright, assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction and the school counselors.

  • Three Grant County teachers are saying goodbye ...

    Harrison prepared generations
    Linda Harrison is retiring from Dry Ridge Elementary after 33 years of teaching. Harrison has worked with children from kindergarten through grade 5 and is a graduate of EKU, NKU and Williamstown High School.

    Teaching was a natural choice for Harrison because her mother, uncle and four aunts were involved in education, inspiring her to be a teacher.

    The following students from Grant County  have achieved dean’s list honors for the 2011 spring semester at Bluegrass and Community Technical College.

    The dean’s list is open to full-time students who have earned an overall semester gpa of 3.5 or better in courses numbered 100 or above.

    Cheyenne Thurman
    Cheyenne Thurman has earned an Associate of Science in Interdisciplinary Studies with a Concentration In Early Childhood Development degree from Kaplan University.

    She has a 3.33 grade point average and is pursuing bachelor’s degree.
    Thurman is employed at Beck’s Daycare and Learning Center in Williamstown.

    She lives in Crittenden with her husband, Jonathan, and her son, Brandon.

    Thurman is the daughter of David Rice and Reynae Lockhart.

  • Summer food service program available throughout county

    The Grant County Food Service Program is participating in the Summer Food Service Program. Meals will be provided to all children without charge and are the same for all children regardless of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability, and there will be no discrimination in the course of the meal service.   • ENERGY PROGRAM SAVES THOUSANDS

    With Grant County and Williamstown Independent Schools feeling squeezed financially, the school districts are saving thousands of dollars after hiring an energy manager last year.

    In July 2010, both school districts joined an energy consortium with three other school districts to hire Jon Nipple as energy manager to propose various ways to save energy and money.

    Since that time, both districts have saved through energy conservation practices and selecting the best utility rates.
