  • WHS Band of Spirit finishes in third place

    The Williamstown Band of Spirit marched in the cold and rain on Oct. 24 at the Boone County Rebel Classic at Boone County High School.  

    Despite the best efforts of the Boone County staff to repair the mud-soaked field, conditions were  harsh.  Williamstown, the first band of the day to take the field Saturday morning, marched their show at 11:15 a.m.

  • McNay named September youth winner

    When Adrienne McNay saw the opportunity to help children, she jumped at the chance.

    McNay volunteered to help with “Hay Read”, a program where second graders from across the county went to Grant County High School for a night of activities that revolved around this year’s book, “Five True Horse Stories.”

  • GCHS band places fourth overall

    Mud and white pants are not usually a good combination, however put those two together on a cool October Saturday and you have a typical marching band competition that is accompanied by a rainy season. Grant County Marching Band completed its regular season Saturday at the Boone County Rebel Classic. During preliminary competition, the band competed against former 5A band, Montgomery County. Although the field was not in favorable conditions, the band succeeded in sweeping their class and earned another distinguished performance.

  • Williamstown Learning Academy helps struggling students

    Williamstown Middle and High schools are offering an alternative form of education for the 2009-2010 school year.

    The Williamstown Learning Academy is designed to help students who may be struggling in a traditional classroom setting for a variety of reasons.

    The school board approved the academy during its regular July meeting.

    “This is an alternative education program,” said Principal Misty Buchanan. “It is not a separate school.”

  • WHS Band of Spirit named Grand Champion

    After a two week  hiatus, the Band of Spirit returned to competition this weekend  in Edgewood.  Performing at Dixie Heights High School’s first “Festival at the Heights”, Williamstown continued their winning streak by bringing home another grand champion title.

    Performing at 3:30 p.m. in class A competition, Williamstown received first place and captured both color guard and percussion awards in their class.  Beechwood finished in second place, followed by Bellevue, then Dayton.

  • GCHS band competes at South Oldham

    Grant County competed at South Oldham on Oct. 10 competing against Bullitt East and Madison Southern in 4A preliminary competition. Grant earned first in its class and best overall guard with another distinguished performance.

    Entering into finals competition, the top three spots were separated by a margin of less than one point. This was going to be a close fight to the finish. Grant County band finished the night third, with a distinguished score of 84.2, only separating second and third place a tenth of a point.

  • Williamstown educators present at statewide conference

    Three educators from Williamstown High School recently shared successful math strategies to help students succeed.

    Williamstown Jr./Sr. High School Principal Misty Buchanan and teachers Ann Rourk and Deana Cummins presented at the Kentucky Association of School Council’s annual “Schools That Lead the Way” conference in Louisville.

    The school was chosen because of their high test scores in all areas, but math was the area of focus for the presentation.

  • GCHS band takes Governors Cup

    When Grant County Marching Band took the field at the 38th Annual Northern Kentucky Marching Band Festival held at Campbell County, they had one goal….be undeniably a better band than they were the previous week.

    With great pride, they not only accomplished their goal, but they won Grand Champions and brought home the much sought after Governors Cup.

    In preliminary competition, Grant County was the only 4A band to compete in its class and brought home first place in all captions.

  • WHS Band of Spirit receives top honors

    The Williamstown Band of Spirit received top honors again on Sept. 19 when they traveled to Eastern High School in Louisville. The band was awarded the grand champion trophy at the Eastern Eagles Classic.

    Williamstown, the only Class A band to compete, earned a spot in finals competition by placing second overall in preliminaries behind powerhouse Adair County. 

    Following an energized finals performance, the band received the grand champion title, edging out Adair who was named reserve grand champion.
