  • Low-Cost School, Sports Physicals available

    For the first time, families needing affordable sports physicals for their children under age 20 can obtain them at the Grant County Health Center, 234 Barnes Road, Williamstown. The health center will again offer school physicals, as in years past.

  • Simpson graduates Cum Laude

    Lindsay Taylor Simpson graduated Cum Laude from South Oldham High School on June 5. Simpson wore honor chords for Beta Club, National Honor Society and for being in the top 10 percent of her class. She was also recognized as an honor graduate for distinguished grades in math, science, practical  living, career studies, social studies and on demand writing.

    Simpson earned an Academic Flagship Scholarship and will be attending the University of Kentucky  in the fall.

  • Williamstown enrolls for 2010-2011

    Any parent/guardian wishing to enroll their child in the Williamstown Independent School District as a new student for the 2010-2011 school year may pick up an enrollment packet from the Williamstown Board of Education Office.

    The completed paperwork and required documentation may be returned to the board of education office during regular business hours or returned to the Williamstown Welcome Center during open enrollment from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. July 8 and July 22 and from 5 to 8 p.m. July 21.

  • Grant natives honored for fundraising at Transylvania

    Two Grant County natives, who are members of Transylvania’s class of 2010, have been recognized for their involvement in the Transylvania Senior Challenge, an effort to raise money to fund an annual scholarship for an incoming student. Caroline Powell and Danielle Smith were a part of the group that pledged a record $22,207 for the fund.

    Transylvania, founded in 1780, is the nation’s 16th oldest institution of higher learning and is consistently ranked in national publications as one of the top liberal arts colleges in the country.

  • Clark accepted to Kentucky Governor’s School for The Arts

    This summer the Kentucky Center will host over 200 eager young artists from every region of the Commonwealth in the heart of the Bluegrass, as The Kentucky Center Governor’s School for the Arts (GSA) takes place at Lexington’s Transylvania University from June 20 to July 10.

  • Courtney explores agriculture career at MSU ag institute

    Nicole Courtney, of Dry Ridge, was chosen,  along with 42 other high school students selected from around the state, to attend the Institute for Future Agricultural Leaders (IFAL), sponsored by Kentucky Farm Bureau.

    The five-day summer leadership conference was held at Murray State University June 13-17, while another group of students attended an identical IFAL conference June 20-24 at the University of Kentucky. IFAL is designed to expose high school students to college life while helping them explore the different fields of study for careers in agriculture.

    Any new student (kindergarten – grade 12) planning to attend Grant County Schools during the 2010-2011 school year is encouraged to complete enrollment paperwork at the Grant County Schools Welcome Center. You must register by calling the center, at 859-428-5499, to schedule an appointment.

  • Godsey recognized by U.S. Achievement Academy

    Taylor Allen Ray Godsey, of Crittenden, has been recognized by the United States Achievement Academy as a student of excellence for his achievements in speech and drama and being on the honor roll at Grant County High School. Godsey was nominated for this honor by Ryan Ray, his teacher.

    Godsey is a 2010 graduate of Grant County High School, where he served on the homecoming court, and will be attending Northern Kentucky in the fall. He is employed at Watson’s Pools and Spa in Florence.

  • Clark graduates Notre Dame

    Barry Clark, son of Dr. Steve and Dr. Mary Clark of Louisville, graduated with honors on May 16 from the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Ind. with a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering. He received a University Fellowship at the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and will attend graduate school there in the field of robotics.

    Clark is the grandson of Ethel Clemons of Dry Ridge and the late Tom Clemons and the nephew of Tom and Cheryl Clemons of Dry Ridge, Jeff and Katie Clemons of Williamstown and Tony and Teresa Howe of Crittenden.

    College

    Georgetown College announced that the following local students have been named to the dean’s list for the 2010 spring semester:

    • Timothy Joseph Burgess, II, who is the son of Timothy and Melody Burgess of Williamstown.

    • Devon R. Kells, who is the daughter of Harold and Karen Kells of Dry Ridge.

    The dean’s list honors undergraduate students who completed the semester with at least 12 hours and a 3.7 GPA.
