  • SOLDIERING ON

    Today (Thursday morning), a caravan left Grant County High School at 4:30 a.m., headed for Molena, Georgia.

    Their mission: bring home honors from the U.S. Army Raider Nationals.
    Members of the GCHS JROTC Raiders have been running, sweating, climbing and preparing almost daily for this national invitation only event for weeks, even years.

    Name of competition: KMEA Class 4A Quarterfinals

    Location and date:  Madison Southern High School in Berea.

    Names and number of bands participating:  13 bands; Pulaski County, Madison Southern, Southwestern, Anderson County, East Jessamine, Harrison County, Rowan County, Harlan County, Lincoln County, Marion County, Shelby County and Mercer County.
     
    Ranking and any awards:
    Finished second at regionals with a distinguished score.

    Score: Distinguished rating 81.95

  • GCHS JROTC CAPTURES OVERALL CHAMPIONSHIP TROPHY

    The Grant County High Schools JROTC Raider team traveled to Hamlin, West Virginia with 33 team members 10 parents and three Army JROTC Instructors on Oct. 12 and competed against 17 other High School JROTC Raider Teams.

    They ended up bringing home the “Overall Raider Championship Trophy” from this event.

    There were two past West Virginia State Raider Teams Champions making up the completion rosters.

  • GCHS BAND MARCHES TO DISTINGUISHED RATINGS

    Name of competition: Madison Central Tournament of Bands

    Location and date:  Madison Central High School in  Richmond

    Names and number of bands participating:  Six bands: Paul Laurence Dunbar, Bourbon County, Beechwood, Henry Clay, Grant, and Mercer (That is the finals awards order also)

    Ranking and any awards:  Prelims: first place over-all and won guard and percussion captions also competed against Mercer County
    Finals: fifth place

    Score: Distinguished rating in prelims and finals.
