  • Arthur (Mac) and Nancy Bagwell III will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 3.

    Arthur and Nancy were married in Tucson, Arizona.

    In observance of their anniversary, a party will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Feb. 3 at the American Legion Hall in Williamstown. There will be food and beverages.

    The party is given by their four children, Laura, Arthur IV, Charles and Elizabeth.

    The couple has nine grandchildren and one great grandchild.

  • There is a part of the Christmas story at odds with hope, peace, joy and love of Christmas, a part that can’t be in the Christmas Pageant:  the part after the visit of the Magi.  

    Evil is woven into the tapestry of the Christmas story when Herod orders  “the slaughter of the innocents” (Mt. 2:16-17) and Matthew quotes the Prophet Jeremiah:  “A voice was heard in Ramah, weeping and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children. And she will not be comforted, because they are no more.” (Mt. 2:18; Jer. 31:15).

    Kimberly Bowen, formerly of Grant County, received a master’s of divinity degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Ft. Worth, Texas.  She is a 1986 graduate of Simon-Kenton High School and a 1991 graduate of Eastern Kentucky University. She is the daughter of Walter and Alice Bowen of Burlington.

    In the first verse of the book of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, it says; “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.” We must understand that God created our world and created man and woman in his image.  The fact that he is creator reminds us that he is in control of our lives and he is the one we must look to.
    In the first book of John, in the first verse, the same words are used,

  • January 15, 1998
    Brent Caldwell, a former dispatcher and police officer for Williamstown has been hired as a 911 dispatch employee. Caldwell was hired in a special meeting on Jan. 8 by the board of directors of the county’s Public Service Communications Center. Caldwell is the son of Williamstown Mayor Glenn Caldwell.
