    • The Valentine’s Dance raised $679 for youth camp fees.
    • Sunday morning five were baptized.

  • Have you ever had your face painted? Did you get whiskers to make you look like a cat or a rainbow to make you look happy?  Do you remember the feeling you had as a small child on Halloween? When you could wear a mask and pretend to be someone or something magical? Ash Wednesday is drawing near and it is a time of year when Christians are invited to add something special to their face—actually, their forehead—to help them remember who they really are and what it means to follow Christ. We smear ashes on our foreheads to mark the beginning of the season of Lent.

  • Perhaps this can be a reminder of the payoff of “putting up” the garden in spring, summer and fall:  we have extended our homegrown eating pleasure into the winter months with some basic preservation methods.  If you froze, dried, canned or otherwise preserved fresh fruits and vegetables in 2012 do not forget about them (or horde them for some unreasonable time.)

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Mark C. Zordel has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. Zordel studied Air Force missions and special training in human relations. Zordel is the son of Dorothy F. Zordel of Lincoln Neb. and Vernon R. Zordel of Williamstown.

  • I used to love to go to Sam’s club.  When I was going to school in Memphis, Tenn,  I would swing by and “visit” the store to look around and then make my rounds for the free samples and that would be my lunch (Hey! Don’t judge me. It was good eats and it was free!)

  • Earl Hampton began a journey on Feb. 1.
Hampton started a 200 mile walk from Prestonsburg to Frankfort that will culminate for I Love Mountains Day on Feb. 14.

The “I Love Mountains Day” is to raise awareness of the destruction caused by mountaintop removal for the purpose of mining for coal.
Hampton, a minister at the Vineyard of Grant County, attended I Love Mountains Day in 2012 and thought about how he could get involved. He then signed up to receive an article from Kentuckians for the Commonwealth.

    • New Year corporate fast.  This will be the first day of each month for 2013. There will be a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on the first day of the month at the church to pray together and break bread.
    • Sunday morning church service - 10:45 a.m. Youth group service at 6:30 p.m. every Sunday night

  • In a time when we all seek advice from experts, it is not only important to know what plants you have, but also to understand the nomenclature of symptoms caused by insect and disease problems.  “I’ve got this thing on my wacha-ma-call-it” won’t get you very far with a Google search or in person.  We need to know how to describe the “things” that we find on our plant material so a proper diagnosis and treatment can follow.
