  • Eddie and Kathy Coyle of Verona, announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kristalynn Kelly Coyle to Daniel Joseph Hardin, son of Billy Hardin of Florence and Lisa Thomas of Crittenden.

    The wedding is being planned for 6:30 p.m. May 29, 2009, at New Bethel Baptist in Verona. A reception will follow at Receptions in Erlanger.

    • The chamber breakfast meeting will begin at 8 a.m. May 18 at the Grant County Extension Office.

     

  • The Grant County Public Library held a bookmark contest in honor of National Library Week, which was April 12 through April 18. Hayley Sebree, a student at Mason-Corinth Elementary, was the winner of the third to fifth grade division. Ashley Clifton, a student at Williamstown Elementary, was the winner of the kindergarten to second grade division. A total of 29 entries were received. Sebree and Clifton were given a book bag with the library’s logo, a book and other prizes. The winning entries were made into bookmarks that are being distributed at the library.

  • Grant County residents will soon be able to enjoy movies under the stars.

    For the second consecutive year, Grant County Parks and Recreation will show free flicks on a 24 feet by 15 feet inflatable screen at Grant County Park in Crittenden.

    The Movies in the Park series will feature a total of 10 movies screening at dusk the second Saturday and fourth Friday of each month from May through September.

    The first movie about an animated robot in love is scheduled for Saturday, May 9.

  • Irene Link Prather began her career in public service 39 years ago when she worked as a nutrition assistant for the Grant County Cooperative Extension Service for the University of Kentucky. She worked in that position for 23 years and retired in 1970.

    But that wasn’t her last contact with the public. In 1993, she was asked by the Grant County Tourism Board to become an employee.

    She told them she would think about it. It didn’t take long for her to make a decision to accept their offer.

    The Dry Ridge Elementary Relay for Life team will hold a $.25 auction at 6:30 p.m. May 8 at the J and B Hall in Dry Ridge.

    The Grant County News Relay team will be holding a Relay Relics community sale May 9 at Grant County Park in Crittenden. More than 20 booths will be set up selling a variety of items including homemade cakes and breads, quilts, Mary Kay Cosmetics, Partylite candles and many more items.

  • Brandon and Nina Williams of Dry Ridge announce the birth of their first child.

    Braelyn Marie Williams was born at 6:17 p.m. Dec. 22, 2008, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    She weighed 8 pounds, 6 ounces and was 21.5 inches long.

    Her maternal grandparents are Jo Ellen Whiteker and Jackie and Susie Whiteker, of Dry Ridge.

    Her maternal great grandparents are Fern Whiteker of Falmouth and the late EJ Whiteker and the late Eugene and Nina Hopperton.

    Her paternal grandparents are Willis and Tammy Williams of Dry Ridge.

  • Kiwanis to host magic

    show May 16

    The Williamstown Kiwanis club will host a family magic show fund-raiser at 7 p.m. May 16 at the Williamstown High School Gym.

    Illusionist Roger Despard will be performing the windshear, an illusion where he attempts to pass through an industrial size fan.

    The Williamstown Kiwanis Club will be conducting a telephone ticket campaign during the next several weeks. Proceeds from the show will help with the North Key Project, Little League tournaments and scholarships.
