  • Where is the 2010 Derby Idol winner?

    John Siedenberg is a student at Morehead State University.

     “At first, I entered the contest just to see how far I could make it,” Siedenberg said. “I was a bit nervous because there is a lot of talent there. I knew it was going to be a tough decision for the judges to make. “

    Siedenberg has lived his entire life around music since his family has always been interested in it.

  • Logan Marie Hollen, 5, won Overall Novice Champion Showman, showing her sheep at the 2010 Kentucky State Fair.

    Hollen won in the 5 to 8-year-old category competing against 66 other children. She is a member of the Grant County Extension Clover Buds.

    She is the daughter of Kurt and Donna Hollen of Crittenden.

  • Each semester at college, most students spend their time attending early morning classes, planning fraternity and sorority functions or worrying about exams, but Haleigh Jacobs had a different experience.

    Jacobs spent her spring semester with Congressman Geoff Davis as an intern in Washington D.C.

    Jacobs, 21, a Williamstown High School graduate, worked with Davis in Washington from January to May of 2010.

    “I worked with him (Davis) previously in his district office and I was surprised and excited to get the Washington D.C. internship,” Jacobs said.

  • Randy and Karen Collins of Dry Ridge are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Heather Collins to John Tuggle, son of Wendell and Peggy Tuggle of New Liberty.

    The wedding is being planned for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 18 at Poplar Grove Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the JMB Banquet Hall in Dry Ridge.

    The bride is a 2002 graduate of Grant County High School. She is also a graduate of Gateway Community and Technical College.

    She is employed by Med Care Pharmacy.

  • Tim and Tiffany Fox of Dry Ridge would like to announce the birth of their first child.

    Maci Kenetha Fox was born at 7:17 p.m. June 16 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.

    She weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    Her maternal grandparents are Tim and Sharon Beach of Dry Ridge. Her maternal great grandparents are Opal Beach of Dry Ridge and the late Marvin Beach and Jesse and Mendola Colson of Corinth.

  • Boy Scout Troop 712 and Cub Scout Pack 318 went on their annual Family Campout to Blue Licks Battlefield Park in July.

    At their camp fire, scouts participated in a flag retirement ceremony. Roy Osborne and Keith Hinton taught the scouts the proper way to retire a flag and stressed the seriousness of the ceremony.

    The troop plans to do these ceremonies periodically and will accept worn American flags from businesses and individuals. For more information regarding Boy Scout and Cub Scout chapters in Grant County, call 800-872-6887.

  • Army National Guard Pvt. Wendell R. Jacobson has graduated from the Basic Field Artillery Cannon Crewmember Advanced Individual Training course at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

  • Dr. and Mrs. William “Ken” Rich of Williamstown are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Elizabeth Ann Rich to Andrew Dawson Lawrence, son of Mr. And Mrs. John C. Lawrence of Williamstown.

    A destination wedding is being planned for 3:30 p.m. Oct. 29 in Florida.

    The bride is a 1999 graduate of Williamstown High School. She is also a 2003 graduate of Georgetown College and is employed by Precision Dental Care.
