  • Eleven-year-old Brittany Nelson knows the value of hard work and how to make it pay off.

    For the past two years she’s won first place in the horse show at the Kentucky State Fair. She was hoping to make it a three-peat. While she didn’t win first place in 2009, Nelson and her horse, Storm, managed to capture second place honors.

    Brittany is the daughter of Gene and Debbie Nelson of Dry Ridge. She is a sixth grade student at Grant County Middle School.

  • The Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association elected the 2010 officers at its general membership meeting Nov. 17 at the Galt House East in Louisville. The officers were sworn-in at the Quarterly Executive Board Meeting at the Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort on Dec. 3 by Rep. Royce W. Adams, D - Dry Ridge.

    Grant County Judge-Executive Darrell L. Link was chosen by his peers to serve as president. Link has been active within the association for many years. He has served as Grant County judge-executive since 1999.

  • A resident of Grant Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center has received over 100 Christmas Cards, with more on the way.

    “More cards came in today’s mail,” said Somer Hurston, nursing home administrator.

    Grant Manor has been home to Dessie Mardis since 2005, but old friends have not forgotten her.

    The Christmas card campaign was instigated by Mardis’ former home health caregiver, Carol Doane.

  • Phil and Sandra Harney will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Dec. 31.

    In observance of their anniversary, a party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2010 at the JMB Center, 2020 Taft Hwy. in Dry Ridge. Refreshments will be provided. The party is given by their three children, Phil and Russ Harney and Peggy Jones.

    The couple request no gifts.

     

  • Hayley Frances Leach, Miss Pre-Teen Grant County Fair 2009, traveled to Louisville on Oct. 17 to compete for the title of Miss Pre-Teen Kentucky County Fair.

    She won first runner up, competing against 75 other contestants from across the state.

    Some of her other pageant titles include: Little Miss Grant County Fair 2004, Little Miss Junior Grant County Fair 2007, Little Miss Jeffersontown, Miss Sunburst 2008 and Little Miss Kentucky second runner up. She also recently passed down her title of Miss Pre-Teen My Old Kentucky Home.
