  • Angela Young never thought she’d end up working at a detention center.

    Young said she was just doing her job conducting a head count during a shift last year when she noticed one of the female inmates was having trouble breathing.

    “During a head count, we have to see the inmate’s face and wake them up if they’re asleep,” Young said. “When I tried to wake this inmate up, she was unresponsive.”

  • Hayley Frances Leach won the title of Miss Kentucky Junior Teen America in January. To win the title Leach competed in four areas of competition, including private interview, talent/spokesmodel, physical fitness and evening gown and was the only one in the pageant’s history to score perfectly on the private interview segment.

  • Agnes Poor Beach, of Dry Ridge, celebrated her 94th birthday at the April meeting of the Dry Ridge Homemakers at the Grant County Extension office in Williamstown. Beach has been a member of extension homemakers for more than 50 years. She spent her birthday, April 22, with her family. 

  • The Grant County High School Jazz Ensemble and Percussion Ensemble will give a free concert at 7 p.m. April 29 in the GCHS auditorium.

    The concert will feature guest saxophonist David Threlkeld, professor of jazz studies at University of the Cumberlands.

  • The Grand Illusion Magic Show will be 7:30 p.m. May 7 at the Williamstown High School gymnasium. Tickets may be purchased in advance by calling 859-234-8450. The advanced price is $7.50 or $10 for adults at the door and $7.50 for children. Children under age 5 are free.

    The show is sponsored by the Williamstown Kiwanis and proceeds will benefit the North Key Project, the Senior Scholarship program and Little League Tournaments.

  • The Grant County Fair Board will hold a consignment auction at 10 a.m. May 1 on the fairgrounds on Baton Rouge Road. Items will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. April 29-30, and will not be accepted on the day of sale. The auctioneer has the right to refuse any items and no junk will be accepted. The Grant County Fair is a non profit organization and a tax deduction is available for donated items.   • Donald and Carla Mullikin of Dry Ridge are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter Mallory Danese Mullikin to Adam Michael Meade, son of Mark and Krista Meade of Walton.

    The wedding is being planed for 5:15 p.m. on May 15 at the First Baptist Church of Walton.

    A reception will follow at the JMB Center in Dry Ridge.

    The bride is a 2005 graduate of Grant County High School and is graduating this year from Northern Kentucky University. She is employed by Springdot.
