  • Susan Calloway Nimersheim, director of the Grant County Public Library, has been accepted as a member of the first Library Leadership Institute for public library directors. The yearlong institute features four sessions of two days each and is being offered through the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives (KDLA.)

  • Jerry and Kay Hicks will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary from noon to 2 p.m. June 20 at the Williamstown United Methodist Church, where they where married on Father’s Day, June 19, 1960.

    They have a son, Greg Hicks, and his wife, Joyce and a daughter, Sherry Mason and her, husband Tim. The couple has five grandchildren.

  • Howard Brewer, Jr., of Dry Ridge, was recently recognized by the American Hereford Association (AHA) for producing a cow named to the Dams of Distinction list.

    “These are the most efficient cows in the Hereford breed,” said Craig Huffhines, AHA’s Executive Secretary. “They have met the strictest requirements for early calving, reproductive efficiency, calving intervals of no greater than one year, and weaning weight ratios in he top end of the breeder’s herd.”

  • Shelley Work, of Clarksville, Tenn., formerly of Dry Ridge, would like to announce the birth of her daughter.

    Alaina Monroe Work was born Dec. 9, 2009.  

    She weighed 7 pounds and 15 ounces and was 22 inches long.

    Alaina is the granddaughter of Nelson and Lynn Work, of Dry Ridge.  She is the great granddaughter of Pete and Kathy Roland, of Holbrook, the late Marvin Monroe Robinson and the late Ezra Lee and Nellie Work.

  • Braydon Dungan, a fourth grader at Williamstown Elementary represented Grant County on March 27 at the regional 4-H speech competition in Gallatin County.

    Dungan’s speech on camping safety won frist place for his age group, competing against six other students. He was also named the overall winner in the junior speech division.

    He will compete for the state title at the University of Kentucky in July.

  • Robert Begnoche and Erin Burns of Park Hills, formerly of Grant County, would like to announce the birth of their second child.

    Robert James Begnoche Jr. was born at 1:33 p.m. on May 14 2010, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center in Edgewood.

    He weighed 9 pounds and 7.3 ounces and was 22.5 inches long.

    His maternal great grandparents are Mary Lou and Butch Bruns of Dry Ridge.

    His paternal grandmother is Teresa Newby Begnoche of Dry Ridge and his paternal great grandparents are James and Delores Newby of Union.

  • • Friends of Whalen hold fish fry fundraiser

    There will be a fish fry at the Williamstown Baptist Church  at 2 p.m. June 19 to help raise money for handicap renovations needed inside the home of Doug Whalen, who was severely injured in an accident on April 12.

  • Robert and Dorothy Marksberry of Williamstown are pleased to announce the engagement and forth coming marriage of their daughter, Pat Marksberry to Mikie Conrad of Williamstown.

    The wedding is being planned for 6:30 p.m. June 5 at the Mason Baptist Church. A reception will follow at the American Leion Post in Williamstown.

    Invitations are not being sent and all family and friends are invited to attend.
