  • Clyde Oliver is hanging up his scissors and shears after 50 years of cutting hair.
    That’s a lot of swept-up hair.
Entering Clyde’s Barber Shop on Paris Street in downtown Williamstown is like being transported into a different era.
Clyde mans the only barber’s chair in the shop and the focus is less on getting in and out and more on chatting with good friends.

  • From saving souls to shearing locks, Willie Ailstock sees similarities in pastoring and barbering.
“I’ve always felt this profession (barbering) is a service profession,” he said. “You are serving your community and you should do it with a smile because you are enjoying it because you want to do it not because you have to.”
Ailstock, who is the minister at Oak Ridge Baptist Church in Williamstown, has opened his own barber shop next to Bruce’s Grocery in Mason.

  • Back when I was neurotically obsessive about making bracelets and loved them to distraction, I ran out of room on my wrists to wear them all and made some for my car to wear — car bracelets, if you will.
Using green glass and pewter alphabet letter beads, I made three car bracelets to hang on my rear view mirror, spelling out “grace,” “hope” and “mercy.”

  • “My life stinks and it is God’s fault!”  I have heard this from many people over the years, maybe not in those exact words but the premise of it. I often wonder when we say that if we are just trying to blame God for us not listening to Him. If I ask a nutritionist on how to best lose some weight, then if I totally ignore everything they say, is it the nutritionist fault that I didn’t lose weight?

  • For a king of such great power like David, ruling the Kingdom of Israel was an enormous task. He constantly faced ruthless enemies, whom even he could not defeat by himself, but time and time again had to call upon God for the victory.

It makes you wonder what God had in mind when He allowed 8-year-old Josiah to rule over the whole Kingdom. Surely so many people wagged their heads in unbelief toward the child, doubting his ability to rule such a great nation. However, Josiah had something going for him the preceding King did not.

  • Certain characteristics are so inherent to Christianity. What has changed the most in the past 20 years with people? People today are far less willing to commit to anything. Whether we are talking about faith, marriage, career, etc... studies have backed up evidence. Some say it is because of: desire for adventure, career advancement, and prolonged adolescence.
