Jimmy Thorne, Sergeant Major USMC (RET), honored and commissioned Tandus A. Taylor (Tandy) and Delores (Dee) M. Hartfiel, both of Dry Ridge, as Kentucky Colonels. The award was bestowed on them by Gov. Matt G. Bevin, for their charitable work to make Grant County a better place to live. Since retiring from the post office, they have dedicated themselves to helping others, the less fortunate and the poor. They have done this by both word and deed, donating time and energy as volunteers at the Grant County Thrift Store, assisting with food distribution at the Grant County Helping Hands mobile food pantry and serving as board members for the Grant County Helping Hands organization. “When we think of what a Kentucky Colonel is, they epitomize that thought, they are truly deserving of the title,” Thorne said.
