  • The moon is always round

For the past month I have been working on stories for my newspaper’s month-long emphasis on breast cancer.

I’m up to my eyebrows in breast cancer research and have talked with a number of women who are actively in treatment for this disease or are counting months and years of being a survivor.

As it always happens whenever I write about a disease or medical condition, I convince myself that I’m next to get it. When my husband had open hear surgery, I thought I had heart disease.

  • ‘The Father’s Love’

I have a confession to make: I am a Christian music nerd. There. I said it. I grew up in Dallas, Texas with a bunch of other Christian music nerds. While many teenagers were drag racing, going to movies or parking, my friends and I were going to Christian music concerts. We would get there super early to ensure that we were on the front row. We would beg the guitar players for picks and the drummers for sticks. Then we’d stalk the band after the concert for autographs on those sticks and picks. Yes, we were groupies.

  • ‘A soft anwser turns away wrath’

As a pastor, I often encounter conflict. Sometimes it’s spiritual conflict, sometimes it’s moral conflict, and sometimes it’s simply normal every day mundane conflict like deciding what news broadcast to watch in the morning. In most cases, the conflict I encounter is minor and can eventually lead to creative outcomes. Conflict can generate hearty discussions, it can motivate us to be more productive, and conflicts managed well can even inspire positive self-reflection.

  • Experience the joy that God has given

Saying you are a “Joyful Christian” should be redundant.  Paul said in Philippians 4:13, “Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!” When one says they are a Christian it should be assumed that they are joyful. Yet, we know that is not always the case.

Sometimes there are enemies of joy that try to rob you of that joy and we must deal with them in order to truly experience the complete joy that God has given us in Jesus Christ.
