  • Dog Days of Summer

The summer heat has reminded me of an important part of the word of God. The hot summer days, the need for rain and the seeming never ending thirst causes us to want one thing…..to be refreshed.
The Gospel of John, chapter 4, the story of the woman at the well is recorded. In this story a lady is coming to get water at the well for her and her family. It was the hottest part of the day and she was met by Jesus. Jesus intentionally went to her to minister to her and show her the only thing that would quench her thirst.

  • Faith & Values

Last month, I received my first-ever invitation to speak at a graduation ceremony. As I told the graduates that day, I guess this puts me in a class with Oprah Winfrey, Bill Gates and Hillary Clinton.
Well, not quite. Turns out they deliver their speeches at prestigious and expensive universities and I delivered mine to the 10 graduates of the Substance Abuse Program (SAP) at the Grant County Detention Center. I doubt that Oprah, Bill or Hillary would ever show up for this graduation but for me, there is no place that I would rather be.

  • Bad week, good news

The other day a co-worker posted on Facebook that it had been a week from hell. We had all felt it. It was as if a black cloud hovered over us, raining down all kinds of bad. We had made mistakes, tempers flared. Fingers pointed. Cranky people called which didn’t help our own crankiness. We scowled. We skulked. We wished we were any where but here.
