  • My defining moment

“Then the word of the Lord came unto me,” the old weeping prophet, Jeremiah, penned as he was moved by the Holy Spirit.

He quoted these words many times throughout the book, but there is something about the first time he said it that separates it from all others. It was at a young age that the presence of God bombarded Jeremiah’s life, as history would place him in the late teenage years or early 20’s.

  • Think before you begin to master

Author Marianne Williamson said “you must learn a new way to think before you can master a new way to be.” What you think about God will determine the kind of relationship you have with Him. If you think of God as harsh and demanding, you’ll probably be afraid of God and keep your distance from Him. If you think of God as just an impersonal force in the universe, you’ll likely have nothing but a vague relationship with Him. But if you think about God the way Jesus does, you’ll get an accurate perspective that will lead you to fall in love with Him.

  • Mercy triumphs over judgement

Back when I was neurotically obsessive about making bracelets and loved them to distraction, I ran out of room on my wrists to wear them all and made some for my car to wear — car bracelets, if you will.
Using green glass and pewter alphabet letter beads, I made three car bracelets to hang on my rear view mirror, spelling out “grace,” “hope” and “mercy.”

  • Is it God’s fault that life stinks?

“My life stinks and it is God’s fault!”  I have heard this from many people over the years, maybe not in those exact words but the premise of it. I often wonder when we say that if we are just trying to blame God for us not listening to Him. If I ask a nutritionist on how to best lose some weight, then if I totally ignore everything they say, is it the nutritionist fault that I didn’t lose weight?

  • Are you up for the challenge?

For a king of such great power like David, ruling the Kingdom of Israel was an enormous task. He constantly faced ruthless enemies, whom even he could not defeat by himself, but time and time again had to call upon God for the victory.

It makes you wonder what God had in mind when He allowed 8-year-old Josiah to rule over the whole Kingdom. Surely so many people wagged their heads in unbelief toward the child, doubting his ability to rule such a great nation. However, Josiah had something going for him the preceding King did not.
