  • Wallace honored for Excellence in Business

    A slow economy has not stopped Jason Wallace, owner of Grant County Drugs, from opening more pharmacies in Grant County.

    “Healthcare as a business is immune to the economy,” Wallace said. “Sickness doesn’t stop because the economy is down, people are still going to get sick and will still need their medicine.”

    Wallace was honored with the 2009 Excellence in Business award at the Grant County Chamber of Commerce banquet.

  • Burgess, boy, April 21

    Lisa and Patrick Burgess of Daytona Beach, Fla., announce the birth of their son.

    Elijah Patrick Benjamin Burgess was born on April 21 at Halifax Hospital in Florida.

    He weighted 8 pounds and 12 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    His paternal grandparents are Joyce and Russ Burgess of Daytona Beach, formerly of Crittenden. His great grandfather is Estill Mitts of Dry Ridge.

    Burgess was welcomed home by his family.

     

  • Maines, boy, May 27

    Timmy and Traci Maines of Dry Ridge announce the birth of their son.

    Jackson Ryan Maines was born at 2:16 p.m. on May 27 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighted 7 pounds and 10.6 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Clayton Baker of Independence and Gail Baker of Dry Ridge. His maternal great grandparents are Joe and Shirley Haas of Taylor Mill.

  • Mitchell, boy, April 19

    Justin and Laura Mitchell of Corinth announce the birth of their first child.

    E. Ayden Mitchell IV was born at 6:27 a.m. on April 19, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 19.75 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Connie and Joey Campbell of Williamstown.

    His maternal great grandparents are Mary Campbell and Mary and Orville Daley of Williamstown.

    His paternal grandparents are Donna and Tony Mitchell of Corinth.

    Adam and Alisha Wright of Crittenden announce the birth of their second child.

    Abby Gail Wright was born at 8:36 p.m. April 30, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces and was 19 inches long.

    Her maternal grandparents are Randy and Debbie Gill of Cynthiana.

    Her paternal grandparents are Mark Wright of Verona and Randy and Vicki Dalton of Crittenden.

    Abby was welcomed home by her sister, Kaylee and friends and family.

     

  • Library summer reading is back!

    The library isn’t just about books anymore. The theme for the this year’s summer reading program is creativity. There will be numerous activities to get the community reading and expressing their creativity.

    At each event, the Kentucky Summer Food Service Program will provide free meals for children. Parents may pay $2.

    “It’s funny, kids always say the food is better here than at school,” Cheryl Clemons, coordinator of youth services, said, noting that it was the same food service.

  • Locals chosen as pageant finalists

    Ashley Dawn McMullen, 17, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Kentucky Pageant to be held June 29 at the Hyatt Regency in Lexington.

    The winner will receive $1,000, a crown and banner, bouquet of roses and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in California.

    McMullen, the daughter of Kayleen Jackson, enjoys cheerleading, gymnastics, swimming, running, basketball and football. She is involved in the Future Farmer’s of America and spirit club.

  • Kinstler-Edwards wed April 25

    Trina Kinstler of Florence and Josh Edwards of Williamstown were united in marriage on April 25, 2009 at Faith Community United Methodist Church in Independence.

    The bride is the daughter of Mike and Tammy Kinstler of Florence. She is a 2000 graduate of Conner High School and a 2004 graduate of Asbury College. She is employed by WXIX-TV in Cincinnati.

    The groom is the son of Lester and Barbara Edwards of Williamstown. He is a 1999 graduate of Williamstown High School and a 2004 graduate of the University of Kentucky. He is employed by Fidelity Investments in Covington.
