  • Wright competes in 4-H horse show

    On July 1 through July 3, the Kentucky State 4-H Horse Show was held at Broadbent Arena in Louisville. Hundreds of riders from across the state traveled to compete in this show.

    Emily Wright, the daughter of Mike and Patsy Wright of Dry Ridge, rode her horse, Sand Easy Jet, to the top in two classes. For the second consecutive year, she won barrels and with the fastest time of the day she won pole bending.

    She also brought home grand champion honors for the week.

  • Kelly graduates from combat training

    Army National Guard Pfc. Jonathan H. Kelly has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.

    During the nine weeks of training, Kelly studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches and field training exercises.

  • Fryar, boy, January 13

    Jamie and Dustin Fryar of Williamstown announce the birth of their child.

    Daniel Gordon Fryar was born at 9:20 a.m. Jan. 13 at St. Elizabeth South Medical Center in Edgewood.

    He weighed 8 pounds and 4 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Reynae and Chris Lockhart of Wiliamstown and David and Lorraine Rice of Dry Ridge. His maternal great grandparents are Norma Mattingly and the late Stephen Madewell and Pat Madewell of Cincinnati.

  • Maines, boy, May 27

    Timmy and Traci Maines of Dry Ridge announce the birth of their son.

    Jackson Ryan Maines was born at 2:16 p.m. May 27 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighted 7 pounds and 10.6 ounces and was 21 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Clayton Baker of Independence and Gail Baker of Dry Ridge. His maternal great grandparents are Joe and Shirley Haas of Taylor Mill.

  • Cahoon - Miracle to wed July 11

    David Scott Cahoon and Mellony Ann Miracle will be married at 2:30 p.m. July 11 at the home of Ed and Rosie Gabbert, 106 Lynwood Drive in Williamstown.

    The bride is director of business development at LifeCare Hospital in Miamisburg, Ohio.

    The groom is minister at Mount Olivet Christian Church.

    All are invited to the outdoor wedding and picnic reception immediately following the ceremony. The couple will reside in Williamstown.

  • Caldwell-Clayton to wed July 11

    Susan and Bob Raleigh of Crittenden announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Autumn Nichole Clayton to Derek Douglas Caldwell, son of Darrell and Brenda Caldwell of Williamstown. The wedding will take place at 6 p.m. July 11 at Williamstown Christian Church. The reception will follow at St. Williams on 6 Church St., in Williamstown.

    Both bride and groom are 2006 graduates of Grant County High School. She is a senior at NKU studying social work. He is employed at GSI in Richwood.

    All friends and family are invited.

  • Collier graduates from basic training

    Air Force Airman Shane A. Collier graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

    Collier is the son of Jeff and Betty Collier of Williamstown.

    He is a 2004 graduate of Grant County High School.

  • Powell, boy, December 26

    Chris and Tammi Woodyard Powell of Independence announce the birth of their first child.

    Micah Shane Powell was born at 3:20 p.m. Dec. 26 2008 at St. Luke West in Florence.

    He weighed 7 pounds and 7.6 ounces and was 19.75 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Woody and Linda Woodyard of Williamstown.

    His paternal grandparents are Leroy Powell of Newport and the late Charlene Powell. His paternal great grandparents are Roy Powell of Fort Thomas and the late Lucille Powell.

  • Davies-Burgess wed April 17

    Sylvia Davies and Russ and Joyce Burgess, formerly of Crittenden, are pleased to announce the marriage of their children, Lisa and Patrick.

    The ceremony was held April 17 at the Volusia County Courthouse on the Halifax River in Daytona Beach, Florida.

    It was immediately followed by an intimate dinner at Parks Seafood Restaurant.

    Cutting of the wedding cake took place at the couple’s home in Daytona Beach.
