W. Rodney McMullen has been promoted to president and chief operating officer of Kroger.

McMullen, the son of William and Henrietta McMullen of Williamstown, is a 1978 graduate of Grant County High School.

He graduated from the University of Kentucky with a degree in business administration and accounting in 1981. He received his master’s degree from UK in 1982.

McMullen has been employed by Kroger for 31 years. He began his career as a store clerk and worked in a variety of jobs through the years.

Imagine Kay Bailey’s surprise when she brought home a blue ribbon from the 2008 Grant County Fair.

It was only her first time to enter and she won first and second place ribbons for the handiwork.

Bailey of Williamstown began quilting about four years ago in a homemaker club and she’s not stopped.

“Sometimes it’s just a little project, but I keep busy, even though I am retired,” she said, with a laugh.

Mike Franks and Rhonda Robinson of Crittenden announce the marriage of their daughter, Ashley Robinson to Adam Kincer, son of Cody Kincer and Lisa Myer of Butler.

Robinson is a nurse and will start pre-medical studies this fall in Denver, Co.

Kincer is an airman in the U.S. Air Force based at Buckley AFB in Colorado. He returned in May from a tour of duty in Iraq.

The wedding ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Faith Christian Center. The reception will follow the ceremony at Receptions in Erlanger.

Invitations have been sent.

What started as a temporary job, only filling in when needed, became a career for Linda Daugherty.

Daugherty spent 28 years in a small room. She battled snakes once and bad weather during the winter.

If she needed to use the restroom, she had to leave the building and go across the street. Once she had to operate out of a mobile unit with a portable heater to keep warm, but through it all, she never missed a day of work, other than for a vacation.
