  • Sharpes celebrate 65 years

    Bob and Norma Sharpe will celebrate their 65th wedding anniversary. The marriage took place on Nov. 20, 1944 and was officiated by Rev. Tom Collins at Williamstown Christian Church.

    Norma Ware Sharpe is a 1943 graduate of Williamstown High School.

    The couple reside on Lakewood Court in Williamstown. They are the parents of five children, Robert of Versailles, Larry of Berea, Sandra Brown of Willamstown and David and Kevin of Lexington. The couple have 10 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

  • Grant County Public Library receives federal grants

    The Grant County Public Library is the recipient of a $4,343 programming grant and a $3,022 assistive technology grant. The projects are made possible by the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and administered by the Kentucky Department for Libraries and Archives.

    Programming grants promote and support quality programs in Kentucky’s public libraries. Assistive technology grants encourage the expansion and availability of library services to patrons with special needs.

  • Conservation District scholarships awarded

    Debra Hancock and Kari Ritchie were awarded scholarships for non-traditional students by the Grant County Conservation District.

    Hancock is a native of Grant County. She is the mother of three and grandmother of three. Her work experience was in customer service and factories. She recently worked as an aide in Grant County Schools where she became in teaching as a career. She said she was encouraged by many to go to college and pursue a degree in education.

    She is currently a junior.

  • Bruce in 40th year as Mason postmaster

    For nearly half her life, Jewel Bruce has provided stamps and sorted mail for customers.

    Jewel, who turned 88 on Oct. 14, has been postmaster of the Mason Post Office since 1969.

    “I guess then I never thought about being here 40 years,” she said. “It doesn’t seem that long. It gives me something to do.”

    Jewel spent her birthday like any other, inside her one-room post office next to Bruce’s Grocery, sorting mail into customer’s boxes as she waited for them to pick it up.

  • Riddle, boy, Aug. 18

    Keith and Erin Riddle of Dry Ridge announce the birth of their first child.

    Lukas Allen Riddle was born at 7:40 p.m. Aug. 18, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 2 ounces and was 20 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Tim and Becky Bowen of Demossville. His maternal great grandparents are Juanita Lilly of Dry Ridge, Shirley Wright and the late Henry Wright of Dry Ridge and Geneva Bowen and the late Randall Bowen of Demossville.

  • Hunt-Acquah to wed

    Michael and Etta Hunt of Dry Ridge are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Brooke Michelle Hunt, to Bernard Kofi Acquah, son of Bernard and Amelia Acquah of Takoradi, Ghana.

    The wedding is planned for 2 p.m. Oct. 10 at the Williamstown Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the Grant County Farm Bureau Building in Williamstown.

    The bride is a 2002 graduate of Grant County High School. She is a student at Kentucky State University. She is employed by Williamstown HeadStart and Preschool in Crittenden.

  • Woods-McClanahan wed

    Camille Woods and Joey McClanahan were united in marriage on Sept. 19 at 2380 Hogg Ridge Road in Williamstown.

    The bride was given in marriage by the groom’s father, Jim McClanahan.

    Tabatha Nelson, sister of the bride of Blaine, Tenn., served as the maid of honor.

    Brandon Jones, cousin of the groom of Corinth, served as the best man.

    Jason Fletcher, a friend of the groom, and Bradley Leonard, a cousin of the groom, both of Williamstown, served as ushers.

  • Cornman, boy, Sept. 15

    Steve and Tara Cornman of Williamstown announce the birth of their first child.

    Braydon Steven Cornman was born Sept. 15, 2009.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Tony and Virginia Varner of Dry Ridge. His maternal great grandparents are Lois Nickels and the late Henry Nickels of Dry Ridge and Hilda Varner and the late James Varner.

    His paternal grandparents are Jack and Joan Cornman of Williamstown.

  • Poe, boy, July 11

    Carrie and Roger Poe of Dry Ridge announce the birth of their first child.

    Ryder Christopher Poe was born at 2:52 a.m. July 11, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighed 7 pounds, 4 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Don and Patti Caldwell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. His maternal great grandparents are Dolores Caldwell of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. and Dorothy Mott of Jacksonville, Fla.

    His paternal grandparents are Roger and Lora Poe of Dry Ridge. His paternal great grandfather is Harry Poe of Dry Ridge.

  • Simpson, boy, Sept. 21

    Leigh and Scott Simpson of Williamstown announce the birth of their second child.

    Gavin Scott was born at 1:59 p.m. Sept. 21, 2009, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center South in Edgewood.

    He weighed 8 pounds and 11 ounces and was 20.5 inches long.

    His maternal grandparents are Philip and Beth Chardis of Vernon, Conn.

    His paternal grandparents are Freddie and Nancy Simpson of Cynthiana and Dene Scott of Tallahasse, Fla.

    Gavin was welcomed home by his big sister Liza.
