  • Hall donates to Locks of Love program

    Kylee Hall, 5, donated 13 inches of her hair to the Locks of Love Program. Kylee, the daughter of Chris and KrisAnn Hall of Dry Ridge, wanted to help children who lost their hair due to illness. She is a first grader at Dry Ridge Elementary. This was her first official haircut done by Janessa Fryman at J Salon, Dry Ridge.

  • Barker graduates basic military training

    Air Force Airman 1st Class David A. Barker Jr. graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Robinson-Petty to wed

    Wanda Williams of Astor, Fla., and Gary Robinson of Lexington are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter, Linda Rose Robinson to Eugene Glenn Petty, son of Glenna Whaley of Florence and Bailey Petty of Walton.

    A spring wedding is planned.

    The bride attends Northern Kentucky University and is employed by the city of Dry Ridge.

    The groom is a 1984 graduate of Simon Kenton High School and is employed by DHL at the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

  • Dailey-Ingram set date

    Mike and Kim Newman of Dry Ridge are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Kristina Dailey to Christopher Ingram, son of Eddie Ingram of Dunlap, Tenn. and Debra Kinman of Corinth.

    The wedding is planned for 3 p.m. Aug. 29 at St. William Church in Williamstown.

    A reception will follow at the church reception hall.

    The bride is employed as a caregiver and the groom is employed by A&P Heating and Air.

  • Great grandmother has passion for pencils

    Dottie Rix said she is the Grandma Moses of Grant County.

    That’s how she describes her artwork. With dancing eyes and a vivacity about her that belies the patience necessary to paint, Rix says she has been drawing since she was in school.

    The Pocono, Pa. native has lived and drawn in Grant County for 20 years. Her latest exhibit was featured in July at the Grant County Tourism Center.

  • How does your garden grow?

    Nicole Hankinson participated in Bonnie’s Third Grade Cabbage Program.

    Hankinson, the daughter of Glen and Debbie Hankinson of Williamstown, grew a cabbage that weighed 16 pounds, 6 ounces.

    She’s hoping the large cabbage will earn her a $1,000 scholarship from Bonnie Plants, a plant company from Union Springs, Ala.

    Bonnie Plants provided all third grade students a free cabbage plant. A contest winner will be chosen from each state and given a $1,000 savings bond. The state winner will be selected by a random drawing.

  • Neffs wed July 3 in Independence

    Billie Jo and Robert Stephen Neff Jr. were united in marriage on July 3, 2009 at the Peddicord Estates in Independence. Rev. Steve Hoffman officiated at the ceremony.

    The bride is the daughter of the late David and Lois Smith of Dry Ridge.

    The groom is the son of Robert S. Neff Sr., of Florence, and Marilyn Neff of Poplarville, Miss.

    The bride was given in marriage by her brothers, David, Glenn and Butch.

    Serving as maid of honor was Caitlyn Cox, daughter of the bride, of Dry Ridge.

  • Winning slogan chosen in logo contest for Grant County tourism

    Roots from the past...Spirit in the future. This is the new slogan, created by Elisa Rossi, for the 2010 Grant County tourism guide.

    Judy Mullins, director of Grant County tourism and convention commission, said there were about 30 different slogans for the board to pick from. They picked Rossi’s because they thought it represented Grant County well.

    “It’s good to remember history but also to acknowledge the future,” Mullins said. “I really liked how she used the word, spirit.”

  • Norton-Ramey wed April 4

    LeeAnn True Norton and Shane Garland Ramey were united in marriage on April 4, 2009 at the Georgetown Baptist Church by Bernard Palmer.

    The bride was given in marriage by her mother, Jane True Jones.

    Serving as maid of honor was Shawna Carlton, the bride’s best friend, of Stuart, Fla.

    Bridesmaids were Teresa Palmer and Maria Greene, both of Georgetown, and Becki Fraley of Mason, Ohio, all friends of the bride. Tanner Wells of Georgetown served as a junior bridesmaid.

    David Leach of Salt Lick, Ky., a friend of the groom, served as the best man.

    Michael Sanders of Crittenden and Melinda Torrence of Cincinnati are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Amanda Sanders to Gannon Pettit, son of the late Darius and Sonnie Pettit of Dry Ridge.

    The wedding is planned for 6:30 p.m. Aug. 22 at Williamstown Baptist Church.

    A reception will follow at the JMB Hall.

    The bride is a 2004 graduate of Grant County High School. She is also a student at Northern Kentucky University. She is employed by St. Elizabeth Medical Center.
