  • Link chosen as president of County Judge/Executive Association

    The Kentucky County Judge/Executive Association elected the 2010 officers at its general membership meeting Nov. 17 at the Galt House East in Louisville. The officers were sworn-in at the Quarterly Executive Board Meeting at the Berry Hill Mansion in Frankfort on Dec. 3 by Rep. Royce W. Adams, D - Dry Ridge.

    Grant County Judge-Executive Darrell L. Link was chosen by his peers to serve as president. Link has been active within the association for many years. He has served as Grant County judge-executive since 1999.

  • Grant Manor resident receives 100+ greetings

    A resident of Grant Manor Care and Rehabilitation Center has received over 100 Christmas Cards, with more on the way.

    “More cards came in today’s mail,” said Somer Hurston, nursing home administrator.

    Grant Manor has been home to Dessie Mardis since 2005, but old friends have not forgotten her.

    The Christmas card campaign was instigated by Mardis’ former home health caregiver, Carol Doane.

  • Harneys celebrate 50 years

    Phil and Sandra Harney will celebrate their 50th anniversary on Dec. 31.

    In observance of their anniversary, a party will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Jan. 2, 2010 at the JMB Center, 2020 Taft Hwy. in Dry Ridge. Refreshments will be provided. The party is given by their three children, Phil and Russ Harney and Peggy Jones.

    The couple request no gifts.

  • Leach named first runner up in Miss Pre-Teen Kentucky

    Hayley Frances Leach, Miss Pre-Teen Grant County Fair 2009, traveled to Louisville on Oct. 17 to compete for the title of Miss Pre-Teen Kentucky County Fair.

    She won first runner up, competing against 75 other contestants from across the state.

    Some of her other pageant titles include: Little Miss Grant County Fair 2004, Little Miss Junior Grant County Fair 2007, Little Miss Jeffersontown, Miss Sunburst 2008 and Little Miss Kentucky second runner up. She also recently passed down her title of Miss Pre-Teen My Old Kentucky Home.

  • Emmons complete training

    Air Force Airman 1st Class Christina L. Emmons graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.

  • Livingood finishes officer candidate school

    Joel D. Livingood has graduated from Officer Candidate School (OCS) at Fort Benning in Columbus, Ga., and was commissioned a second lieutenant in the United States Army.

    He completed basic training prior to OCS, earning a physical training award in July 2009. He entered the army with a degree in political science from Northern Kentucky University.

    Livingood is the son of Ron and Alane Livingood of Crittenden.

    He is a 2003 graduate of Grant County High School.

  • Lashley completes basic training

    Air Force Airman Michael S. Lashley graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

    The airman completed an intensive eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness and basic warfare principles and skills.

    Lashley is the son of George Lashley of Flagstaff, Ariz. and Dawn Noel of Dry Ridge.

    He is a 2009 graduate of Grant County High School.

  • Vi McMurty, lifetime quilter

    When Vi McMurtry was 6 years old, her grandmother taught her how to quilt the old fashioned way: embroidering every single stitch by hand. Thus began a lifelong love of creating quilts with her own hands. Today, though carpel tunnel syndrome has robbed her of the ability to do hand stitching, she still creates cozy quilts on her sewing machine.

    McMurtry said she believes she has made 93 quilts in her lifetime. The majority of her creations are given away as baby gifts, shower gifts, wedding and graduation gifts. She has only sold one of those 93 quilts.

  • Hatton-Croy to marry Nov. 14

    Steve Croy and Diana Wise-Warner of Dry Ridge are pleased to announce the engagement and forthcoming marriage of their daughter, Justine Croy to Aaron Hatton, son of Mike and Kellie Hatton of Dry Ridge.

    The wedding is planned for 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 14 at Williamstown Baptist Church.

    A reception will follow at the JMB Center in Dry Ridge.

    The bride and groom are 2007 graduates of Grant County High School.

    Both are students at Cincinnati Christian College.

  • Vincent family holds 26th annual reunion

    The 26th annual Vincent family reunion was held Oct. 10 at the Mammoth Cave National Park in Edmondson county. Fifty descendants of Calvernia and Gillis Vincent were present and enjoyed the delicious buffet provided by the Mammoth Cave Restaurant staff.
