I gave up growing corn a long time ago; figured others can grow it better than me so why take up the space. I drive by Gallrein’s in Bagdad, Kentucky twice a week and their “Sweet Corn” sign has been hung so there are no worries, they have the best corn this side of the Mississippi. The corn is looking good in some areas of my county and not so in others.
Most of us have learned to fear bamboo. I used to think that the only good place for them was in planting beds that were smack-dab-in-the-middle of parking lots…no chance of a runner reaching your garden in that case.

Residents of Humes Ridge Road in Williamstown will now get Cable TV service. Council members voted unanimously to extend the city’s cable lines to serve those customers. It is estimated that it will take the city six to eight years to recoup costs in extending the lines down Humes Ridge Road.
The extreme heat is also causing problems for people without air conditioning.
“We have received several requests for fans and have given out quite a few. We do have a few left,” said Barbara McClure, with the Northern Kentucky Community Action Commission – Grant County Neighborhood Center.
The Grant County Fire Chiefs’ Association plans to share findings and answer any questions at a community forum for a proposed emergency services taxing district.
The meeting, which is the first of several planned around the county, is set for 7:30 p.m. Monday, July 9 at the Dry Ridge Fire Station at 31 Broadway St.

Leland Roberts III has joined the United States Army Reserve under the Delayed Training Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station in Columbus. The program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay enlistment into the army for up to one year before reporting to basic military training.
