For the second year, Williamstown parents hope the community will help “Give Charlie a Chance.”
Amanda and Chris Nicholson will be chairing the benefit fundraiser from 4 to 8 p.m. Aug. 11 at Williamstown Baptist Church to raise money for the International Foundation for CDKL5 Research with the hopes of finding a cure for CDKL5 Disorders.
Their 3-year-old daughter, Charlotte, or Charlie as her family calls her, was diagnosed at 1 1/2 years old with the rare disorder that effects about 250 people worldwide.
We have all asked the question “why hasn’t my plant bloomed?” Sometimes the answer is as simple as not enough sunlight, not old enough, not cold enough or hot enough, etc. In fact it could be as simple as a little digging and dividing for some renewed blooming attitude.

At a recent convention of the Funeral Directors Association of Kentucky. Dennis Stanley, of Hamilton Funeral Home in Verona and Elliston Stanley Funeral Home in Williamstown was selected to serve as the Sergeant-at-Arms at the Hyatt Regency and Commonwealth Convention Center in Louisville.

The Grant County Friends of the Shelter are collecting donations for a fundraiser yard sale, which will be held on July 28, at the Grant County Tourism Office, 1350 N. Main in Williamstown.
Donations of gently used items such as clothing, appliances, household items, furniture, toys and books are needed at the shelter located on Barnes Road.
Volunteers to assist with sorting, pricing and moving items to the sale site are needed. For information, call Yvonne at 859-250-0501.

Sally Davis, a constituent services representative for Gov. Paul Patton, visited the area to meet with citizens. Davis was in Grant County to listen to concerns, offer help and advice and provide information on the latest happenings in Frankfort. She is a liaison for 17 counties for the governor’s office.
I gave up growing corn a long time ago; figured others can grow it better than me so why take up the space. I drive by Gallrein’s in Bagdad, Kentucky twice a week and their “Sweet Corn” sign has been hung so there are no worries, they have the best corn this side of the Mississippi. The corn is looking good in some areas of my county and not so in others.
Most of us have learned to fear bamboo. I used to think that the only good place for them was in planting beds that were smack-dab-in-the-middle of parking lots…no chance of a runner reaching your garden in that case.
