  • Glacken Truck Tug-of-War benefit

    There will be a memorial/benefit Truck Tug-of-War for Craig Glacken at the Grant County Fairgrounds at 7 p.m. April 30. Northern Kentucky Truck Tuggers will sponsor the following classes:
    • 6,000 pound 4X4
    • 5,500 pound 2WD
    • 4,200 pound 4X4
    • Open/Street

  • Alumni banquet set for May 28

    The Williamstown Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday, May 28 at the Williamstown High School Gymnasium. Registration will begin at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m.  The annual alumni banquet is for all graduates of the Williamstown High School and the classes of 1941, 1951, 1961, 1971, 1976, 1981, 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2011 graduates will be honored.
    Reservations must be made with Kay Jump on or before Friday, May 20 at P.O. Box 67, Verona, Ky. 41092. Cost of the dinner is $20 per plate.

    April 18, 1996
    Grant County High School received a straight superior rating at the District 6 Choral Festival. They were also one of two Kentucky schools chosen to compete in the Eastern Kentucky University Choral Festival, where six members were chosen for All-state recognition. These six participated with other All-state students in a Louisville concert during the month of February.

  • Weekend Gardener

    April 22 is Good Friday and Earth Day so we should all be in a good frame of mind to do our part to improve the world. Next Friday, we can put it to good use and plant some trees in celebration of Arbor Day. Surely we can top the first Arbor Day in 1872, when it was estimated that one million trees were planted in Nebraska alone.

    After dismal tobacco yields hit by dry weather and disease, cattle prices are collapsing. On top of that, feed prices are escalating due to corn shortages. Experts predict that any beef price increases won’t be until the fall of 1997 and that is a minimum.
