Williamstown Lady Demons win over Bellevue, Bracken County

The Williamstown Lady Demons captured a pair or impressive victories in girls’ junior varsity basketball action this week.
The Lady Demons topped Bellevue 41-23 before needing overtime to get past visiting Bracken County, 54-48. Williamstown was not as fortunate against a deep Covington Holmes team, falling 55-35.

Williamstown 41, Bellevue 23
Williamstown jumped on top early and never let up, outscoring the host team in all four quarters.
Sammie Souder led all scorers with 17 points, including the Lady Demons only 3-pointer of the game. She scored points in all four quarters for Williamstown, including nine in the second quarter and four in the fourth.
Shelby Gutman was next for the winners with six points, followed by Olivia Souder with five, Rachel Montgomery and Haley Howe with four each, Megan Perkins and Michaela Kennedy two each and Emily Ison one.
Williamstown outscored Bellevue 11-6 in the first quarter and 13-4 in the second period to take a 24-10 lead into the locker room at the half. The Lady Demons continued to add to their lead throughout the second half and was in total control, 35-15, heading into the final period.

Bracken Co. 48

Williamstown outscored the Lady Bears 11-5 in overtime for the win.
Sammie Souder hit three 3-pointers and led all scorers with 23 points. Haley Howe was next for the victors with nine points, followed by Rachel Montgomery with eight, Olivia Harden six, and Justice Chambers and Kiki Johnson with four each.
Trailing by seven heading into the final period, Williamstown turned it on and came from behind to send the game into overtime.
S. Souder and Olivia Harden came up big for the winners in the fourth quarter and overtime period with a combined 14 points. S. Souder had eight, while Harden added six.

Holmes 55,
Williamstown 35

Leading by just two, 16-14, after one period of play, Holmes pulled away by outscoring the Lady Demons 26-9 over the next two quarters of play for the win.
Sammie Souder was once again the Lady Demons’ leading scorer with nine points, followed closely by Olivia Harden, Rachel Montgomery and Kiki Johnson with seven each.
Olivia Souder and Haley Howe chipped in two apiece to round out the Williamstown scoring.
