Williamstown High School hosted 20 schools, including over 600 runners, Saturday, Oct. 6, at their invitational cross country meet.
Teams from Cooper, Highlands, Dixie Heights and Bellevue High Schools took home first place finishes in varsity and junior varsity races, and all runners competed for individual awards as well.
Williamstown cross country coach Michelle Whaley confirmed that this was the highest attendance ever after several years of hosting a meet.
Colorful tents lined the baseball field as teams gathered to wait for different races. Many groups did warm-up exercises across the ball field and around the course. The weather was cool, and that seemed to appeal to many runners.
Varsity teams began to race at 9 a.m. and younger runners followed, concluding with the last elementary race at 1:15 p.m.
Competing for Williamstown in the girls’ JV 5K race were Ariana Yerbafria, who placed 14th; Avery March, finishing 17th; and Amber Perkins, finishing 26th.
In the girls’ middle school race, Megan Perkins placed 13th and Haley Howe finished in the 20thspot. All girls improved their individual times this week.
In the boys’ middle school race, Derek Smith placed 24th, followed by: Dustin Smith, 27th; Stone Robertson, 33rd; Lucas Asbury, 37th; and Josh Asbury, 79th.
Williamstown will not be competing this Saturday, due to the school being on fall break.
