Eleven qualifying bands met at Beechwood High School this past Saturday for the 2010 KMEA Class A East Regional Competition.

Williamstown Band of Spirit scored a 90.75, the highest of the day; securing them a spot in state semi-final competition at Butler High School in Louisville this weekend.

“These kids get better and better with every rehearsal,” said Tim Hart, color guard instructor for the Band of Spirit. “It’s such a fun show to perform, and the audience at quarter-finals gave the band a standing ovation before the show was finished. As my 26 years of color guard begins to draw to an end, I’m thankful for the group of young ladies with whom I’ve spent my final season. They truly are wonderful.”

Hart will retire at the end of the season.

Along with Williamstown, seven other bands advanced to semi-finals:  Beechwood, Hazard, Nicholas Co, Paris, Pineville,  Harlan and Raceland-Worthington.

These bands will meet the top eight scoring bands from class A in the west region for semi-finals. The four highest scoring of the day will then move on to finals competition at University of Louisville Papa John’s Stadium later that evening.
