Grant County leaders of the National Wild Turkey Federation will host their 11th Annual Hunting Heritage Banquet at Williamstown High School March 28. The event, sponsored by the Eagle Creek Gobblers Chapter, promotes wild turkey conservation.

“For many turkey hunters, this event ranks right behind hunting,” said Gregg Stith, chapter president. “The event is a chance for the community of hunters to get together and talk with friends, make new friends, encourage folks new to the sport and get the latest information on conservancy and wildlife in the area.”

Mike Fawbush, regional director for NWTF and one of Kentucky’s foremost experts on wild turkey conservation, will be the guest speaker at the event. Fawbush will talk about scholarship opportunities at the local, state and national level and the many programs the NWTF sponsors.

In addition to raising money through gun and collector item raffles and an auction, the event will allow members new and old the opportunity to get involved in fun activities that promote conservancy and outdoor recreation.

The chapter president is enlisting help planning a Jakes Day to provide youth outdoor enthusiasts a full range of educational and fun activities. Women leaders are also invited to reinvigorate the chapter’s Women in the Outdoors program. Further, the chapter is hoping to facilitate a Wheelin’ Sportsmen event to make the outdoors accessible for disabled people in the community.

“There is truly something for everyone in the chapter. We’re hoping to tap into enthusiastic and intelligent leaders who are willing to help us plan and carry out an ambitious agenda. We want whole families involved,” Stith said.

All auction items are underwritten by local sponsors, but more donations and sponsors are needed.

Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and a steak dinner will be served at 7 p.m. Regular membership to the NWTF and attendance at the banquet costs $45. Extra meals for guests are $15.

Couples Tickets cost $55. Tickets for juniors cost between $5 and $15.

Jakes Gun of the Year raffle tickets cost $10. NWTF hat raffle packages are available for $50 and $100.
