The Williamstown Demons won a pair of games this week in boys’ junior varsity basketall action, topping Calvary Christian, 56-19, before knocking off Bellevue, 44-43, in a thriller that was won in the final seconds.
Williamstown came out of the gates on fire against Calvary Christian and were in complete control after the first quarter, 20-0. The Demons continued to add to their lead and enjoyed a 50-19 advantage heading into the final period.
Carter Sarcione led the Demons in the winning effort with a game-high 17 points on six field goal and five free throws. He got strong support from Brady Montgomery who had 12 points.
Dustin Smith was next for the winners with eight points, followed by Jose Espicio with seven, Caleb Thompson with five, Landon Hare with four, and Jaden Treichel with three.
Williamstown had three 3-pointers in the game. Espicio, Thompson and Treichel all had one a piece.
Trailing with just 3.8 seconds remaining in the game, Williamstown’s Brady Montgomery stepped to the line and nailed a pair of free throws to rally his team past the visiting Tigers.
Carter Sarcione paced the winners with 17 points, including seven-of-nine shots from the free throw line. Dustin Smith was next with 13, followed by Montgomery with seven for the winners.
Bryce Montgomery and Caleb Thompson were next with two points each, and Landon Hare chipped in one to round out the Demon’s scoring.
Trimble Co. 35, Williamstown 28
Trimble County jumped on top early and never looked back, leading by double digits in the first quarter before holding off a second-half rally by the Demons.
Carter Sarcione led all scorers in the game with 13 points, followed by Brady Montgomery with seven, Dustin Smith five, Landon Hare two, and Jaden Treichel one.
Both Montgomery and Smith had one 3-pointer each for Williamstown.
