After a two week hiatus, the Band of Spirit returned to competition this weekend in Edgewood. Performing at Dixie Heights High School’s first “Festival at the Heights”, Williamstown continued their winning streak by bringing home another grand champion title.
Performing at 3:30 p.m. in class A competition, Williamstown received first place and captured both color guard and percussion awards in their class. Beechwood finished in second place, followed by Bellevue, then Dayton.
All six bands at the competition would have one more chance to impress the judges during finals competition. The Band of Spirit took the field at 8 p.m., performing their show on the slick turf. Despite a few missteps, band members recovered nicely and went on to finish their performance to an appreciative crowd.
As awards were announced, Williamstown received best overall music and visuals, along with the grand champion trophy. Reserve Grand Champion and overall percussion and guard awards went to Paul Laurence Dunbar, a 5-A Lexington band.
The band will take the field again Oct.17 at Harrison County.
