The Band of Spirit from Williamstown captured first place in regional competition at Madison Southern High School in Berea Oct. 31.
Competing against nine other bands in class A East Regionals, Williamstown received their highest score of the season and secured a spot in state semi-finals on Nov. 7th.
Despite the cold temperatures and threat of rain, the Band of Spirit performed an impressive show. Beechwood, Hazard, and Nicholas County completed the top four bands.
“I thought it was a good performance, but we still have a lot of things we need to fix before state,” said Wil Threlkeld, a senior. “We are very humbled by where we are at this point. We have a tremendous amount of respect for those bands, and look forward to competing against them next week.”
As the band prepares for state competition, band members know they need to step up their game for one final push. They will be competing against the 16 best Class A bands in the state for the championship, and every band will be ready with their best performance.
“We are extending rehearsals this week and will work as hard as we can to make this best performance we have had all season,” said Senior Tyler Tolle, also a senior.
Practices were extended on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday this week until 7:30 p.m.
Williamstown will perform at 12:15 p.m. at Eastern High School in Louisville in semi-final competition. The top four bands will advance to state finals at University of Louisville Papa John’s Stadium on Saturday evening.
