Representatives from Vulcan Materials will not be attending the April 5 Williamstown City Council meeting.
The company, which has purchased 115 acres just off Interstate-75 at the Williamstown exit, was expected to make a presentation to the council concerning a rock quarry they plan to build on the property.
Their plans include building an underground mining operation or rock quarry 400 feet below the surface. Blasting at the site would occur everyday, probably in the evening. The stone would then be crushed and conveyed to the surface where it would be loaded and distributed to construction sites in the area.
Officials from Vulcan discussed their intentions with the Grant County Industrial Development Authority in January. They had contacted the city about presenting a detailed plan at the April council meeting but removed themselves from the agenda on March 26.
The council said at their March meeting that if Vulcan came to the city in April, the meeting would have been moved to the Williamstown cafeteria.
