Entries needed for fall decorating contest

The Grant County News and Rocky Ridge Garden Center are sponsoring a Fall Decorating Contest. If you decorate for fall, send photos to gcneditorial@grantky.com by Oct. 26.

The first place winner will receive a $50 gift certficate to Rocky Ridge and a one-year subscription to the Grant County News. The second place winner will receive a $25 gift certificate and a six-month subscription.

  Williamstown Baptist to deliver Thanksgiving meals

Williamstown Baptist Church will be delivering Hope Thanksgiving Day meals to shut-ins and those in need throughout Grant County.

In 2008, this project reached 450 people in the community, the largest number since the ministry began.

The meals will be delivered by noon on Thanksgiving Day (Nov. 26).

Monetary donations are needed and can be sent by check to Williamstown Baptist Church. Note on the check it is for the Hope Thanksgiving Day project.

Anyone in need of a hot meal should call Diane at 859-824-4102.

Reservations should be made by Nov. 20.   Road report:

KY 36 - Traffic will be restricted this week to correct a slide between KY 1995 and KY 22. Crews will be working 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and should be finished by Oct. 19.

KY 1132 - The road will be closed to through traffic during the day. The work is expected to be finished by the end of the week.

KY 22 - Traffic will be restricted to correct a slide near the Owen County line. Crews will be working between 7 .m. to 7 p.m. and should be finished by Oct. 19.


Halloween in Park set for Oct. 30; businesses needed to giveaway candy

The Grant County News and Grant County Parks and Recreation are teaming up to bring you the 21st annual Halloween in the Park event on Friday, Oct. 30 at Grant County Park.

Candy will be given away starting at 6 p.m. until all the candy is gone. Businesses who are willing to donate or pass out candy should call Brittany Miles at 428-4500.

The event is free but a canned good donation is requested. The Grant County Youth Soccer Boosters will be hosting a Haunted Trail (on Oct. 30 and Oct. 31.) The cost for the trail is free with the donation of a canned good item on Friday and will be $3 on Saturday.

The Grant County News will also hold a costume contest at 7:30 p.m. Categories include scariest, funniest, prettiest, most original and judge’s choice. Age groups are birth to 2 years; 3 to 6 years; 7 to 12 years, 183 to 18 and adult.
