Memorial Day was a time to honor veterans. Steven Davis Sr. of Williamstown American Legion Hall and Stan Flerlage of Boy Scout Troop 700 placed American flags in front of the graves of Grant County veterans at Williamstown Cemetery of Memorial Day. The Boy Scouts placed flags on veteran’s graves across the county.

udy Fortner will remain the county clerk for the next four years. Fortner beat Joyce Doyle, a retired administrator with the Grant County School District by 960 votes. Steven L. Beshear easily defeated two other candidates, Tom Barlow and Shelby Lanier Jr. for the Democratic ticket for U.S. Senator for the 4th Congressional District.

The Farmers Home Administration has promoted Betty C. Burgess to the position of county supervisor of Owenton. Burgess has 15 years of service with the agency, the last five of which were spent as assistant county supervisor in the county offices of Williamstown and Owenton. She is active in the community and her church.

The Dry Ridge Police Department received accolades during the monthly council meeting from school bus drivers of Grant County High School. Recently, the police department has set up traffic control on School Road every day when classes are dismissed. Patrolman Glen Frasure has assumed the majority of the traffic control.

June 2, 1961
Crittenden Christian Church has called the Rev. Raymond Lewis, pastor of Glencoe Christian Church, to be the new preacher. This is the first time the church has had a minister on the field since 1912. The Rev. Lewis, his wife and three children will move into the new church parsonage. A spokesman for the church said, “ This is a large step for the church.”

Pvt. Royce W. Adams, son of Mr. And Mrs. Willie Adams, of Corinth, is currently undergoing basic combat training with C Company. Private Adams will be developed into a basic soldier. He graduated from Grant County High School in 1956 and was employed by Parke Davis Drug Company in Cincinnati. He is married to the former Rita Hayden.
