February 26, 1998

Navy Lt. Marcus C. Camacho, a 1988 graduate of Grant County High School in Dry Ridge, has arrived in the Arabian Gulf with Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 115, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Independence. President Bill Clinton ordered the carrier to the area in response to rising tensions there. 

Several members of the Grant County High School football team competed in the Bluegrass Weightlifting Competition at Lexington Catholic High School. Ross Ginter set a new personal record and school record with a 530 pounds dead weight lift. Joe Stolz finished fifth and Johnathon Canaster finished third. 

25 Years

February 25, 1988

The following Grant County students were named to the Honor’s List at Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights: Tena Sue Cavins of Dry Ridge, Elizabeth A. Chandler of Dry Ridge, Candice N. Simpkins of Dry Ridge, Brian Todd Howard and Sonya G. Simpson, both of Williamstown. 

Is he 1-year-old? Or is he 4 years old? Well, he’s really 4 years old. Judson Satterwhite will officially celebrate his first birthday on Feb. 29. Satterwhite is a Leap Year baby, he can grow older a little bit slower. Satterwhite is the son of Mike and Carla Satterwhite of Dry Ridge. 

50 Years

March 1, 1963

Applications for the Selective Service Qualification Test are now available to college students at the Selective Service local boards throughout Kentucky. Scores made on the test will provide local boards with evidence of aptitude for continued undergraduate and graduate study. 

Clyde Dougherty, son of Russell Dougherty enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserves at the Reserve Training Camp in Williamstown during the open house recently. Captain George R. Herbst, Commanding Officer, Company G, 400th Regiment, 100th Division, administered the oath to Dougherty.
