Becky Tolle Hensley, 48, who lives in Dry Ridge, was diagnosed with small cell cancer on June 1.
Henry Hensley, Becky’s husband, along with her siblings, Brenda, Donald and Barbara Tolle and her mother, Thelma Tolle were all devastated by the news.
“She was having pains in her side so he (Henry) took her to the St. Elizabeth Hospital.” Brenda said.
Hensley also has a step daughter, Melissa and son-in-law, Josh Collins who live in Texas.
She is a wife, daughter, sister and aunt.
The hospital completed blood work and diagnosed Hensley with cancer.
“She is one of those people who always goes to the doctor and they didn’t catch it,” Brenda said.
By the time the family had received the full results of testing, the cancer had spread to her lungs, liver and bones.
Brenda said that Hensley is on her fourth round of chemotherapy and was having complications due to the chemotherapy.
“She had to go to the hospital and receive blood and platelets,” she said.
Before becoming sick, Hensley enjoyed visiting flea markets, going to yard sales and fishing.
Along with the recent cancer diagnosis, Hensley has also struggled with seizures for most of her life.
Brenda said that Hensley knows there’s not enough life insurance to cover funeral expenses.
The family’s wish is to give Hensley a simple funeral service and are hoping the generosity of the community will help them do that.
To cover funeral expenses the family of Becky Hensley will be hosting a benefit for her from 3 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 16 at the Kentucky Farm Bureau Building in Williamstown.
There will be an auction and dinner.
The family also has a fund set up at the Bank of Kentucky for Becky Tolle in Dry Ridge. The account is under Barbara Bell FBO Becky Tolle Hensley. The community can donate at any Bank of Kentucky.
