Summer activities abound for Grant County children

With school over, parents should not fret about what to do with their children as there are plenty of camps scheduled both in Grant County and throughout Northern Kentucky.

Baseball:

The Cincinnati Reds will conduct their Reds Stars Baseball Camp, featuring second baseman Brandon Phillips, July 21-23 at Sycamore High School in Cincinnati. The camp is open to players ages 7-14 and the cost is $149. The camp will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and each camper receives a T-shirt, team photo and nine hours of instruction. In addition, current and former Reds players will give daily lectures.

Basketball:

Grant County High School girls' basketball coach Darrell Guffey will conduct a camp June 16-19 at GCHS. The camp is open to players in grades K-4 and 5-8 and will be broken up into two divisions. For students in grades K-4, the camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon and for campers in grades 5-8, the camp will be conducted from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $40 and all campers will receive a T-shirt and basketball. Registration will be accepted on the first day of camp. For more information, contact Guffey at 606-524-2426.

GCHS will also host the New Beginning Basketball Camp, sponsored through NorthKey, June 23-26.

The camp will be conducted from 9 a.m. to noon and registration will be held from 8 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. on June 23. The camp director is former University of Louisville player Alvin Simms, and the camp fee is $60, which includes a T-shirt. For more information, call 859-992-9931 or 859-468-6131.

Football:

GCHS football coach Mike Davis will hold his Future Stars Football Camp June 16-18.

The camp is open to students in grades K-4 and 5-8 and the cost is $45 before June 12 and $50 after June 12. There are discounts to families with more than one child in attendance.

The camp for students in grades K-4 will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and the camp for students in grades 5-8 will be held from 1 to 4 p.m.

Soccer:

A youth soccer camp is planned June 27-28 in Grant County. A session for children Under 4-Under 6 will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on June 27 and the cost is $5. A session for Under 8-Under 14 will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 28 and lunch is included in the cost of $10.
