The story of a house

-A A +A

Pastors Column

A few years ago, in Lexington, there was a house that was immaculate looking from the outside. It was a two-story house witah a two-car garage, columns in the front, professionally landscaped, the whole nine yards. After some time, those in the neighborhood wondered where the owners were, they hadn’t been seen in some time. One neighbor finally looked in through the back door window and was horrified at what he saw. No, it wasn’t a scene from a horror movie, but there was garbage was strewn about and all sorts of animals (and their droppings) everywhere. Apparently the owners had moved out and left the house in shambles. Everyone in the city marveled at how a house could be so pretty on the outside but such a wreck on the inside.

Our lives are like that house sometimes. We look good on the outside, we put up a good front to people, and we act like nothing is going wrong in our lives. Yet on the inside, our lives are a wreck and we are struggling just to make it through the day. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” No matter what is going on in your life, Jesus wants you to know that He is here for you. He sees what you are going through and that He loves you.

Jesus loves us enough to say come just as you are but at the same time He says that He loves us enough to not leave us like we are. Just like the workers came into the house in Lexington and took out all the drywall, wiring, trim, floors, everything, Jesus wants to do the same for your life. He wants to make you a new creation, like Him. Will you turn to Him?
