State inmates slowly returning to jail

-A A +A
By Bryan Marshall

At one time, the Grant County Detention Center housed about 290 state inmates.
That number nosedived to 65 the past few months as the fiscal court looked into the possibility of closing the jail and necessary improvements were made to the facility once the decision was made to keep the doors open.
However, as fresh paint is put on the walls, the HVAC and smoke evacuation system is finally working and plumbing problems are well underway of being fixed, the population of the jail is expected to slowly increase.
