GCHS defeats Owen County in rematch

Score: 2-0 Lady Braves

When: Sept. 9

Where: Grant County Middle School

What: After a week off, the Lady Braves returned to the field to face Owen County. Despite a sluggish first half, the Lady Braves answered in the second half by scoring two goals back-to-back. Freshman Gwen MacAdams and senior Amber Cope scored to put the Lady Braves ahead before the game was shortened by lightning.

Key players: Freshman Mackenzie Tucker stepped into goal to allow senior Brittany Brumley to rest a shoulder injury. Senior Vicky Tonan played strong at sweeper in place of injured freshman Alexis Willen.

Quote of the game: “I was worried that the girls were going to be rusty and it looked like that in the first half, but by the second half, they started to fall back into the flow of competition,” coach Melinda White said. “My seniors stepped up to take control of the field.”


Lady Demons fall to Trimble County

Score:Score: The Williamstown volleyball team fell in two sets (22-25, 24-26) to Trimble County at home.

When: Sept. 10

Where: Williamstown High School

What: The Lady Demons were hoping to get back in the win column following losses in the Capital City Invitational and the All A region tournament, but fell to Trimble County.

Quote of the game: “We need to learn from our mistakes and work on covering tips and getting our serves in,” senior Taylor Eldridge said. “We were used to winning after starting the season with a win streak, but know we have to pick it up now. Coach (Wes) Staff told us we can finish the season strong.”
