Speech and Drama place second at two tournaments

On Nov. 1, the Grant County High School Speech and Drama Team attended the Boone County High School / Calloway County High School Swing Invitational Forensics Tournaments held in Florence. Thirteen teams from across the commonwealth were in attendance for the first official ‘kick-off’ tournament of the season.

For a swing tournament, two different schools hold their individual tournaments simultaneously, giving students two chances to final in each of their events.

Boone County Results

The Team Sweepstakes (the overall team competition) ended with Larry A. Ryle High School placing third, Grant County High School placing second and Danville High School placing first. This was a successful tournament for the team - having a total of 16 event finalists for GCHS (with over 11 different students in finals).

The individual results from the competition were:

Declamation - Amber Benton, fifth place

Dramatic Interpretation - Ariel Dorsey, seventh place (Next-Out award)

Duo Interpretation - Zach Bolen and Matt Ferguson, second place, Kelli Noel and Carly Lacey, fourth place, Alexandra Young and Amber Benton, fifth place, and Alesha Hatton and Cody Murphy, seventh place (Next-Out award)

Humorous Interpretation - Zach Bolen, first place, Daniel Coomer, third place, and Cody Murphy, seventh place (Next-Out award)

Impromptu - Ryan Eldridge, third place, and Chelsea Meece, seventh place (Next-Out award)

Improvisational Duo - Daniel Coomer and Kelli Noel, sixth place

Oratory - Carly Lacey, sixth place

Poetry - Alexandra Young, fourth place, and Jennifer Jump, sixth place

Prose - Alesha Hatton, third place, and Amber Benton, sixth place

Storytelling - Kelli Noel, second place, Jake Ewing, third place, and Matt Ferguson, fourth place
