Husband - Philip Spegal
by – Beverly Spegal, Demossville
I have the best Valentine in the world. My husband,Philip is fighting colon cancer and has been since 2008. He has always been a very hard and dedicated worker. He ran a dairy farm with his Dad for over 40 years. Due to the economy and the high prices of feed, he had to sell the cows and stop the dairy business, which was devastating, but he moved on and started his own trucking business hauling junk or recycled vehicles. This only lasted less than two years, but that was when he found out that he had colon cancer and had to have emergency surgery.
It was a life or death decision that day. He has already had over 75 chemo treatments and then chemo embolisms. He thought that he had beat the cancer, until just recently he had a CAT scan done and it showed over 30 nodules in his lungs and that the tumor in his liver was almost 5 inches in size.
This was devastating to him. He has always been the one that had the broad shoulders and now he needs the shoulders to lean on. We have been married almost 20 years, and I have never loved anyone more than him, especially now that he is a fighter and really wants to live and see all his kids grown and his 15 grandkids.
I am not sure what it takes to win a contest for the best Valentine, but I know I have the world’s best valentine! If I could surprise him with winning a contest to show him how much I love him, then that would be the icing on my cake.
We believe that God has a plan for us, and we will keep on keeping on and fighting this cancer until his miracle comes.
Thank you and may God bless,
